    • Remove The System All Together
    • Level Up Skills (IE: LoL, Diablo 2, etc)
    • Easier Access To Skills (IE: No Tiers Just Pick From The List)
    • Nation or Class Specific Commander Skills vs Generic Skill Tree
    • More Trade Off Skills

The Skill Tree is currently a simple and straight forward path to take.

Almost everyone within your ship class will be picking from the same set of skills.

While there is some diversity there are definite skills that just seem out right bad choices for your class.

 

Personally I would like to see more Trade Off Skills (Positive & Negative):

IE: More Turret Rotation Speed but Higher Dispersion, Better Ship / Torpedo Acquisition at the Cost of Higher Detection or the likes.

 

Or Nation Specific Skill Trees / Class Specific Skill Trees:

IE: I will never be able to use Air Supremacy as a BB, CL/CA, DD, why is it even available for my Captain, instead give me a Class Specific Super Skill (Which this one is for the CV Line).

 

What do you think about when you see the current Captain System?

I would like more diversity in general. But I definitely don't want to see nation specific skills, as that would just lead to complaining and the russians undoubtedly getting the best skills.

Definitely want more skills, and more applicable skills to choose from. However, I would also want captains to be retrainable with credits, even if it is really expensive. If there is no longer an "optimal" build, then experimentation needs to be something that even free-to-play players (like myself) can explore. As it stands I spend a long time reading before I give my captains any skills, because I cannot afford to spend money on pixel ships, but being "optimal" is important to me. If there were more skills, we could customize captains to our playstyle as well as the ship they command, but we should be able to re-spec in case it doesn't turn out the way we thought it would.

 

edit: If a re-spec costs a lot of credits, then the person paying it is probably already paying WG for premium time and ships, and therefor will probably just pay the gold price anyway. A free-to-play player paying credits would have to play quite a bit to get enough credits, which is also a benefit to WG. The longer people play, the more "content" there is for the other players. I'm not a economist/psycologist, but I can't see WG directly suffering a significant loss from a change like this. The change might actually bring a few people back, or improve retention, actually increasing WG's profits.

One Captain point costs the same at every tier.  So a Tier 1 captain 10,000 XP per choice.  Tier 2 captain 20,000 XP per choice, etc.  So you can pick all of the Tier 1 skills at 10,000 XP each, Tier 2 skills you can pick them all at 20,000 XP each.  The XP cost goes up per tier, not per point.
