I have always been impressed by the model detail in this game. Between First aid kits, fire fighting equipment, rescue baskets, stacks of helmets by the Anti air mounts of USN ships, bumpers and buoys. Ammunition stowage around the 40mm gun tub walls. You can even see navigational equipment and radar displays on the bridge of Missouri. Inside of the gun casemates where secondaries are mounted on Texas, you can see a ladder that corresponded to a hatch on the 01 deck.

But... My question is, as google seems to not have any real answers for me. Does anyone know what these compressed gas cylinders are for?

I have a feeling they are things like inert gas for welding or compartmental fire fighting, or oxygen for the medical facilities, as none of these things could really safely be stored inside. But have no real way to confirm that.

Edit... I just realized they forgot to add the captain's chair on Missouri...

Probably for the Bore Evacuator on the 5" mount

Good point, I completely forgot about that. Well not really forgot about it, its kind of hard when you can see the puff of white gas after every shot you fire.

Just failed to put two and two together, lol.... Compressed Nitrogen has to come from somewhere

Speaking of the details on the models, It would be nice if we could have a port screen, where you turn off the hud, and have a free camera, not linked to the axis of the ship.

They serve multiple purposes.

The first is the Bore evacuator - an enert gas that gets "puffed" out after every shot to clear embers/unburnt powder from the bore/barrel.

Second is that some items in the mount are pneumatic - has to be kept at a certain pressure.  Nitrogen is used.

I was a gunnery officer on a Spruance destroyer - that is what we used for the 5"/54 LWGM's.  I remember the bottles being Green however.  Engineering also used similar bottles to hold compressed air for starting the gas turbines from cold iron (could use bleed air if another engine is started).  Of course, gas turbines are not used on any ship in this game.

They are very well done. But they are not without their mistakes. I've been noticing a lot of modelling errors recently. It's almost as though they focus so hard on the little stuff that they miss the big, more obvious, stuff.

Shhh.  Don't mention your admiration to AllisonLee.  He would disagree with you.

And why are the rangefinders missing from Montana's turrets?

One thing I don't care for is the quality variation from model to model. For example, Atago appears to have a fully-modeled bridge interior, whereas Mogami is just opaque glass windows.

Well yes... but that's more of a texture error rather than a modeling error.

I'm talking about things like the missing side-skirts on Tirpitz's bridge or the square base to Furutaka's bridge when it should be rounded.

I know that the Mk53 was removed from #1 turret in the 1950's from all Iowas as a weight saving measure.  Perhaps WG assumed that they did not need the Mk52's on turret 2&3 on Monty also.  It is really just a backup to the Fire Control Tower and Mk38 system.  See link.

If you look at Missouri she is in her 1950's config with the aft mast/antenna and without the turret 1 Mk53.
