Minotaur dispersion

Hey guys and girls.

Playing as a t8 I often find myself dead in t10 matches very very very early and have time to watch others play. I usually switch to whomever is playing as the minotaur because I hope to one day have this ship as my own. I have a question though and it might sound facetious, because I generally am and I probably half mean it to be this way.

When I see someone playing as a minotaur, they generally score a target hit with 1 out of every 25 to 30 rounds. The rest seem to miss whatever they're aiming at and generally by a long way. 5, 6, 10km - distance doesn't matter.

What's going on here here? Do people not bother aiming anymore because of the sheer RoF? Is the dispersion and flight time Atlanta bad?

The torpedoes at least must be great because I have seen many minotaur Krakens.

I've never played the minotaure but i can tell you that this ship is really accurate. The shell Velocity isn't really high and you might miss your first salvo but since this ship shoot every 3 sec, you can shoot a second salvo while the first one still flying toward your target and if you miss the first one, you might hit with the second salvo. Even in DD i struggle to avoid all salvo with the number of shell flying toward me. However i think at you will struggle at max range to hit the ennemie DD or cruiser (maybe CV since they are pretty fast) but BB will see their HP vanish with the raining AP.

In my Akizuki, I aim, then hold down right click to get a view of my surroundings.

If the ship I'm shooting at decides to maneuver when I'm looking around, then my aim goes off.

Machine gun ships require you to look around, because you almost never stop firing it.

Alternatively, they are just bad at aiming.

Are you sure it is a target hit and not just a no damage hit?

Dispersion without aiming system mod 1 isn't great but the biggest factor is the shell flight time. Beyond about 12km, leading anything smaller than a Battleships for consecutive salvos is pretty difficult since you're compensating 3-4 salvos behind the shot you're watching splash the target. Against Cruisers I find I tend to overcorrect, and my fire "sweeps" the target- I'll land 2 salvos, miss 5-6, repeat. I've been shot at by more capable players, however.

That said, I'll reiterate that the dispersion isn't good and penetration also suffers at long range- AFAIK the Minotaur dispersion and velocity is actually worse than the Atlanta while stock. Against battleships at 12km+ I find I'll only get about 1-2 damaging hits per salvo, with the rest either missing or failing to penetrate. Still, even if 1000-2000 dmg every 2.8s doesn't seem immediately threatening or impressive, it's nonetheless a very uncomfortable position to be in and the damage stacks up quickly.

At close range against a broadside target you should be melting people- even BBs should be taking 4000 dmg+ per salvo. Sub 10km you should be doing steady damage.

For reference I average 98000 damage 64% win rate solo in my Minotaur.

Dispersion is fine, it's the arc that is bad.

If you stay at 15km and shoot, you won't hit much, since it will take almost 14/15 seconds for your shell to reach its target.

Within the 10km area? You'll never miss one of those rounds.

2.8 second reload :D us Mino captains are really proud that our guns fire faster than a Gearing and our turrets also turn faster than a Gearing as well lol. Pretty much just an oversized DD on steroids.

Minotaur has low shell velocity so it takes a few rounds to get on target  but the clear rate of fire lets you zero in no time. Hitting superstructure  fore or aft of ships with plunging fire will rack up the damage, People don't relies when playing the Minotaur the trick  is  "don't stop firing!"

AP spam. My god can this boat put it out. I don't care how good you are at swerving or angling. RNG will eventually give in even if people aim badly.

Well the minotaur has some pretty lazy arcs, and it can be difficult to play.  It is quite delicate, and so you should hug islands early and play it safe.  Lob shells from behind islands, and realize people are smart can shoot you in the smoke you hide in.  Use torps to zone people away from you as much as to hit stuff.  Minotaurs are very difficult to master, but play it like a super DD, and you'll be fine.

After playing the Minotaur yesterday I can say with a great degree of certainty that many people miss with Minotaur's guns because of the horrible shell velocity. It's basically USN DD bad.

Just started playing the Minotaur and am still getting used to it. It does remind me of the Gearing (which has been my favorite ship). They have many similarities, so much so that I almost forget I'm in a CA. That leads to over aggressive play, and early death. When played like she should the results are  awesome.
