Bastion and its elusiveness

So... Bastion, that game mode where everyone shoots at the forts when they're still white, and wastes salvos on the surveillance station when they can't reliably hit it. 

 

But honestly, there are a few questions that I don't recall WG ever announcing and their reasoning. Primarily as "why is bastion only available on Atlantic" and "Atlantic will only feature bastion now."

 

My own opinion on bastion is that the mode itself is fine, and is perfectly playable. The issues I see with it is whenever there are new guys that say "whoa, what's this 1, 2, 3, nonsense" I know that this is either going to be a hard carry, or just a complete obliteration. The forts and surveillance stations were never fully explained either. With as many people that odle over Dasha, I'd imagine they watch other videos published in the media section on the main site (not implying any relationship here between two groups of people, read this for face value). I feel when people play this game mode they seriously question if something else is supposed to be done or wait it out which frustrates some of the players, such as myself, which know that the game is no different than domination.

 

I'd love to see Atlantic brought back into the rotation again with all game modes. Being in a competitive clan, and scrimmaging on the map multiple times every few weeks, domination mode should've never been taken out. Once I've loaded into the game, every time I see the Atlantic splashscreen appear, my mood instantly drops.

 

But, I'd like to see what some of your opinion's are. I know quite a few of us in our clan don't like the mode right now and its current implementation, but we're only a small handful of some of the best players in our server.

Ehh.. Bastion isn't too bad, annoying for sure but it's definitely not worse than the fail that is Epicenter.

I don't know why Bastion is a game mode at tier 10.  This seems like a better idea at tier 3-4, where the Battleships are slow and often have nothing to shoot at.  At tier 10, the ships are delicate and have huge ranges, so why waste time with the forts?  I can't even afford to play tier 10 all the time so I get little experience with this mode, I'm not even sure what we're suppose to do on these maps.  Too often I see allies just shooting the forts before we're about to capture them.  When I'm in my Yamato, I don't lack for targets to shoot at, so why add the distraction?

There's nothing wrong with Bastion itself, except for those bloody hard-to-hit Surveillance Stations. But the Forts make it much harder for DDs to flip a cap without some kind of teamplay (teamplay in WoWs LUL).

 

There's also the fact that BBs shoot at the Forts your team is about to capture (for some mind-numbingly dumb reason) at the beginning of the game.

 

tfw your CV doesn't bomb those Surveillance Stations for easy points and XP.

the final part of this pool is missing the option, 

4: no bastion is rare enough without a rotation on this map.

i want bastion on more maps, but its rare as all heck right now so the only good point is that when you get that map, you know you are getting bastion. if you add another set of rng then it will be rarer then it already is ( ive only played it 3 times since it came out i think...) so i only want a rotation available on this map if bastion is enabled on all other maps, other wise bastion is simply to rare.

Maps that should have Bastion:

 

Shatter - 4 zones

1, 2, 3, 4 in clockwise setup starting from the northern middle island.  Radars only on 1 and 3 (north and south islands, on top of the islands), but 2 and 4 with cannons and radar on the center of the left and right islands and a mostly 360 field of fire at range, but with dead zones close to the capture point.

 

Neighbors - 2 zones

Bastion Standard (2-base) mode.  Basically a loose recreation of Dover straight and its gun emplacements; add cannons to each beach side with enough range to fire on the others across the channel, and also able to fire on opposing ships in the channel.  Radar will watch over most of the team's bases.

 

Sea of Fortune - 3 zones

Bastion-remake of Domination.  Maybe add smaller and weaker guns to all the smaller beachhead bunkers scattered throughout the map, with fairly short ranges as well, just to make it more exciting as no ship can safely camp the islands if a zone and the series of islands along its corridor shifts over to the opposition.

 

Trident - 3 zones

The middle zone would be a key point as capturing it would allow the guns to fire onto the east-side of the map as well as to the north and south.

 

Ocean - 3 zones

Three weaponized and radar-equipped weapon platforms/oil rigs.  Full 360 field of fire and only a blind spot immediately next to the rigs.  Side bonus of a special +100% credit boost to the victors for securing that black gold.  And given how rare the map is relative, may make others reconsider playing it (moreso now that Radar will be there to inhibit stealth capping the entire game).

 

There's maybe one or two other maps that I forgot to mention, but also have ideal locations for bastion emplacements already on some islands; they're just missing the cannons and radar.

Thought I would bump this....

 

 

Lets just say I was happy at first that WG showed some actual attention to something and desire to push it out to even further fields, however I was not impressed by everything else that was done. There was no reason to buff the forts in every single way done so. There was no reason to make the detection rings absurdly far. 

 

Literally the only thing you had to do WG was to make it more prevalent, as well as fix the actual targeting system with the surveillance stations. I'd like to see Q place himself on the Hotspot map and attempt to successfully destroy any of the surveillance stations on that map while streaming.
