Everything spots them, their detection range is quite high, BBs and CAs all have improved mobility as power creep.

Nope.

Why does everything have to be about guns and BBs?

Say what? I had a string of good games in Fletcher today, with many torp hits.

Torps still awesome, BBs still travel in fear.

Because they complained more effectively.

I play BBs, Cruisers, and DDs about evenly. And the game has taken such a hard swing away from torpedo boats that IJN DDs went from my favorite class to the clear worst class in the game. The incoming changes are just gonna make them even more boring. The only two good ships in the line are going to be nerfed to hell and everything 6-10 will get a slight gun buff at a cost of what makes the line unique.

I have almost no fear of DDs in a BB these days, unless I am completely unsupported and they can smoke and burn me down there is little that they do to me effectively.

Torps as a primary weapon is just horrible game design.  WG realized this and is fixing it.

It doesn't mean torps aren't still good, you just can't cruise around hidden all game and sling torps and expect to do well.  Fair enough.  That's a [edited]way to play the game in the first place.

I can make the 10km Russian torps work, so there is no reason why the shorter range stealither IJN torps won't work.

Torps are mostly fine. Most ships don't bother traveling straight for very long in high tiers anyway.

You have to develop a knack for predictive analysis of your target. Likely behaviors, probable routes, etc.

If they were turning it's probably because something else saw them coming or they were turning anyway in my experience.

stealthier? The IJN torps get spotted way earlier than most other nations due to a nerf on them a while back. In reality they were stealthier, but in game they get spotted earlier than most other types.

Irrational fear.

Except they aren't stealthier and they require the slowest dds in the game to overexpose themselves against radar spamming cruisers.

The overwhelmingly vast majority of ships in my port have torpedoes, and I have to agree with all of this. Torps still work very well, but long range stealth torpspam was awful game design, now you have to either be more predictive or use them closer, both of which require a higher level of skill to do successfully, and are good things. Torpedoes don't have to deal with bouncing, duds, shatters, or overpenetrating, if they hit they penetrate and do BB cannon citadel-level damage, they have predictable and even dispersion, they have the ability to deal a much more damaging DoT ability than gunnery fires do, the only thing they have to do is hit. As a result, making boats built around successfully spamming walls of torps from stealth at long ranges has had issues.

I had a match yesterday where two Shimas and a Gearing on red team got spawned near each other.

They weren't even in a division

3mins in, 40 torps later...

I'll be honest. I rarely rack up any meaningful flooding damage with torp hits. I'm almost certain it could be 100% chance to flood and I wouldn't notice an appreciable uptick, especially when you consider the thought was probably that it'd be a large portion of damage from torp based vehicles. I've flooded out maybe 2 or 3 times in over 1000 games. As far as flooding being considered a big part of DD DoT I have serious doubts. Flooding is good for a 1-2k damage hit all tolled generally, which is nothing in the grand scheme

Set them on fire with your guns while the torps are in the water.  I've gotten Liquidator plenty doing that.

So many BBs will blow repair on two fires, or even the first.

Well of course you try that, but usually by the time you get the fire going they hit DCP and the torp hits while they are on cool down so nothing...

That tactic is much more viable with CV.

Torps are still very effective, to hit with a predictive rate ranges have come down, and you can be sure that whatever your fire direction is telling you it's not in the grey stripe, it requires more skill and quick assessment, walls of torps also are very effective in holding BBs back from charging straight when they have numerical superiority. Also knowledge of the choke points on various maps will allow a few well timed salvoes to stop them in their tracks whether they're DDs or other ships, sure radar, high tier mobility and spotting have lowered the success rate but to claim doom and gloom is way premature.
