No Wickes love?

The Clemson fan (seal) club is numerous and vocal but her older sister barely gets mentioned.

 

Started leveling up a new account and played Wickes for the first time seriously.

 

The torpedo spam is real. Each broadside spams 6x 56kt 5km torps,,, turn around spam 6 more,, by the time you whip around again the 40s cool down is just about up and there go 6 more...

 

Tier 3 is too clubby for me but what a fun little boat

I picked her up again I put Captain Segal on her. It's been lots of fun.

I have the Wickes and love it. I compared the Wickes with Clemson the other day and decided I would stay with the Wickes due to better matchups mainly. I have AFT for my 4th captain skill so I can lob those high arcing shots about 10.3km now. It's fun to use on slow moving BBs and the reload time on the torps is very good too. The Wickes is a very good seal clubber. I went thru the line once already up to the present Farragut and now getting very close to Mahan.

I kept the Wickes because I liked the way she looked. I keep playing her because she is a great ship and plan on getting her captain to 15 points.

I have a 70% WR in my Wickes. So yeah, i love it. But Clemson's better because of the guns

For some reason did well in the Wickes and did fail in Clemson. Perhaps if I were to go back now I'd do better w/ Clemmy, but my below 50% win rate in the boat means I probably won't bother...there's a lot of other ships in the sea.

 

And now that tiers 1-3 are split for skill-levels, there's not so much seal-clubbing with the Wickes. Instead, there tends to be some real good tactical matches when the teams are not mis-matched.

Wickes is my favorite DD to play, and one I'm semi-competent in, lol.   Like someone else said- it's a good ship AND it gets good match ups.

I prefer the competition factor when I'm in the Wickes but most of the current missions/tasks require T4 or higher to complete so I've been mainly in the Clemson.  Wickes was my first fave, still enjoy it very much.

Wickes is just fun. Crappy guns, you gotta switch sides to get all your torps off, corrugated cardboard for armour, but...it's fun to plan ahead, land some shots, put a whole lotta torp spam in the water and sink some friendlies St. Louis' and Kawachi's. Handles like an Omaha, shoots like a Mutsuki, but that's part of the charm.

Love my Wickes. Never selling her. Well, not again.

  The guns are actually pretty good.  The US's 4"/50's will tear other DD's apart, and can deal good pewpewpew damage to cruisers and BB's as well.   They aren't as good as Russia's guns, but we don't have to trade away decent torpedo performance to get those guns, either, lol.  A LOT more user friendly than the 5"/38's you get starting with Nicky's B hull...

 

  I kinda like having separate sets of torps on each side.  It means all I have to do is turn the other way to have a complete new set ready to go!   With the centerline mounts, you're out of luck until the reload timer counts down.   Comes in RIGHT handy sometimes!
