Title says it all.  Can't hit it except at point blank range, it is as bad a fire hose as the atlanta, damn hard to citadel, and they it has smoke.  When they come out with the next line of ships, are they going to have homing missles?  Bit of a rant, but I am so done with the Brits.  They threw the entire balance of the game off.

The Brit CLs do have a really high skill ceiling, if used well they have very few vunerabilities.

As for hard to cit, you must be joking.

An easy solve is to introduce more radar equipped vessals into this tier level...

Or just the Belfast receieve uptiered MM more often.

I Know Right

To be fair, the citadel, while very vulnerable, is set quite low to the water.  It may very well be easier to hit with plunging fire from long range, than with direct fire from short range.

As a player with a TON of games in the Cleveland, the Belfast is a blast. The shell archs are amazing, my biggest complaint on the Cleveland guns is you lose track of your shells as they pass through the stratosphere but there is now such problem with the Belfast.

Sounds like the opposite of what people say about the Belfast, except about the shell velocity, which is your problem.

Sure, killing a cruiser that a tier or two lower than you are is easy.  At equal tier I can pour fire into from a BB and it just laughs at me.  There is no counter to "I'm invisible and I am going to machine gun you now."  Ok, radar/sonar will help if you get close enough, but by then it has fused your superstructure into slag or it just torps you.

I REALLY REALLY think that they are [edited].

Last match I put 24 shells into the damn thing all across of the midline from my scharnhurst,  Not one crit.  Hell most of the AP did minimum damage.  Wanna guess which of us was crippled?

People keep saying this. I'm not saying you're lying, just that in all my games in a Leander, Fiji, and/or Belfast, I've never been deleted. So, only 35-40 games, so perhaps the sample size is small. Sure, these ships are fragile but they're not any more glass cannons than the Russian cruisers and they tend to be more maneuverable.

The tales of deletion seem more than a little exaggerated.

Hell, a cruiser shooting AP should be able to delete them with ease if they are showing broadside.

You probably dont go full broadside in clear view of a battleship that wants your head.

Well, yeah. Name one cruiser at tier 7 that can do that and not get its hair mussed?

I have citadeled both a Fiji and a Belfast with a Murmansk but both were full broadside to me and only 5 to 6 km away.

Ahhh, she's such a good looking vessel, but I can't play it worth a damn.  50% of the time, she slips beneath the waves after one BB salvo.

To you I respond, the russian can not smoke up and are able to be critted easily if they get too brave.  While agile, Russians can not turn on a dime. Oh yeah 4km torps on the russians.  Can not compare the two.

My favorite part is when a benson gets in the smoke with em.  Oh that is too much fun!  Seriously FUBAR!

That's funny! Reminds me of every time I play my beloved Atago. They all seem to want my head...and I often give it to them .

My question is, is the Belfast worth it?

In my opinion: Very. But only if you're comfortable playing fragile cruisers, like the Shchors.

  • The Belfast is not particularly fast, but it is very nimble.
  • The Belfast gets an HE shell. The AP shell is not the same as the other brit cruisers, more like the standard AP round.
  • The four 3-gun turrets spew lots of ammo at a good clip, very reminiscent of Shchors.
  • Chance to start fires is low. But I got my first Witherer in my Belfast last night, so it does start fires.
  • No torpedos
  • AA is VERY good. In my last two games I was focused by enemy carriers and shredded their attacks. 15+ planes shot down in each game.
  • I find the range on the Belfast fine.
  • The smoke works, but you need to be at half speed or less to remain concealed.

I have some trouble being consistent in the Belfast compared to the Chapayev/Shchors, but it is a good ship. If you don't like Russian cruisers, I can't see you liking the Belfast.

Odd. I must've received a dud Belfast because my torp launcher button is missing.  I love these threads, people complaining about ships claiming things that aren't there.

You want to deal with a Belfast?  Charge the smoke, here's a hint, they don't have torps OR a heal, and take huge damage often.

I won't comment on the Brit cruisers below tier 5 but the emerald is terrible and the Leander and Fiji are playable ships however they are absolute support ships in which you need a team around you to do well.  If they aren't in smoke the are damage and XP piñata's and while in smoke they need spotters to do their thing. Without spotting they are useless. They can't spot or they are dead.

Folks having good games in th she ships are simply those figuring out the ship mechanics and using their team well. They are playing the game as designed by our beloved developers.  Don't blame the driver or claim the ship OP.  As many times as you see one do well I expect there are equal to more who died quietly without doing anything.
