Kagero or the Fletcher?

Hey,

 

  Just curious which one is "better"? I play both japanese and us dds, so I can't decide which one to get. The Kagero has more torp options, but slower rate of fire vs the decent torps and fast guns of the Fletcher. I haven't played above tier 8 except through MM fails yet, and have no idea how the games play out. If there is a lot of sniping then the Kagero seems like a better choice, or if the games tend to be at closer  ranges then the Fletcher seems better. 

  Suggestions? Thx in advance.

The Fletcher is a really good Gun boat that can steal torp. And properly set up and played will run havoc against an enemy team.

Pretty sure you are better off just getting the fletcher.  While I haven't gone up my USN DD line that far... Just comparing stats between the Fubuki and the Kagero makes me not want to 'upgrade'

The Fletcher is the better Tier 9 gunboat AND torpedoboat out of the two. Kagerou used to be good, but then BBabies got too upset.

How does that work exactly?  I love the Udaloi but stealth is not one of it's strong points and if you launch torps at a target that knows you're there your hit rate will not be fantastic.

 

Even if you run full concealment Udaloi isn't much of a torp boat, and you give up a lot of dakka for even trying.

Kagerou is the best Tier VII IJN DD.

 

Fletcher is the best Tier X DD.

Fletcher is better at almost everything. Better guns, better torps because they aren't super easy to detect like 610mm torps (2x5 66 kts, 10.5 km 19k dmg 533mm torps), slightly faster, solid concealment, really the ultimate jack of all trades DDs. And best of all it's suceeded by the Gearing, which at this point is the best T10 DD in the right set of hands.

for me, it took quite some time to figure out how to play Fletcher, I even came here to ask for advice on general tactics of this DD. But it was a total blast. 

 

Kagero on the other hand is a lot like Fubuki with just a tiny bit less stealth. I liked it more as it feels more versatile than Fletcher, but I am rather odd on my ship choices and don't share the same experience as most of the community. 

 

[Also, after Kagero there is Shimakaze and it is amazing! Much more amazing than Gearing after Fletcher]

IJN dds past the Minekaze are awful currently. BB players are terrible monsters and deserve to be torped at every opportunity. WG pls buff IJN dds!

Kagero is probably the DD in the game in accordance to it's respective tier, so unless you want it because you have a fascination with IJN ships, or want the Shimakaze, absolutely not worth, Fletcher is 100x better.

Use my salt level to determine exactly how much better Fletcher is than Kag then.

 

Kag used to be my favorite IJN DD, lowest detection crazy sneaky sship focused on nothing else other than delivering Dev strikes. She is only as good as WG allows her torpedoes to be in my opinion.

 

The entire IJN DD line is a wait and see at this point, the USN DD line is as good as it has ever been tho, so.... go that route.

 

Gearing is the best torpedo boat in game in my opinion, or even the best DD. Khab is not a DD, it doesn't pay like one and isn't meant to, its a Phoenix/Omaha thing at T10... but.... with jet engines and laser cannons no citadel and better armor.

 

I would suggest aiming for Fletch/Gearing

Fletcher has better guns, torpedoes, maneuverability, survivability, AA and smoke, but is detected about an extra 0.2km further to balance it out.

Another thing to consider, the DD line split is SOON^TM.  Kagero is getting replaced so you soon won't be able to experience its unique playstyle much longer.  (I actually liked it)

I can only imagine how amazing Fletcher is. I do really well with Benson's torpedoes and then later realized they're only 55 knots. That means their detection is very low (especially in comparison with IJN), so Fletcher's faster torps will be even more successful.

 

However I want Shimakaze more than Gearing. Gearing seems more like a gunboat than the universal T8-9 counterparts, and torpedo gameplay is more satisfying than small-caliber shooting (it's interesting to watch a DD pop a 1-cloud smoke for himself and shoot a BB for the entire duration, after which the BB heals 100% of it back).
