Macros

Just browsing a "closed topics" forum for fun and saw one guy who got banned for, what I assume, using macros. Is that something prohibited? I know some keyboards/mice allow assigning a macro to special keys and there should be some software solutions too (I don't use any as I tend to replace my hardware quite often and so got to use the cheapest stuff I can buy). I also don't see how macro can benefit the game but that's just me. Though I can't see the point where it can be considered as cheating.

So are they allowed or not?

4.07. Using bots, clickers, macros, keyboard and mouse recorders, or any other similar methods to accumulate credits and experience without the participation or with passive participation of the player within the battle. (Excessive and repetitive passive play)

Something as simple as making a double click a single click can get you banned.

I have a keyboard that has some preset macros that I can't disable... though I don't use it because it's a really cheap knockoff board. Kind of dumb to ban user hardware...

You kinda need macros for CV play.  Otherwise, how else are you going to select multiple related squadrons before the game ends?  You end up having to play USN carriers or you need to grasp a way to click the mouse faster than the F5 army can refresh their browser.

hmmmm... if I assign double-click to the mouse wheel using Windows tools to shoot a salvo at once, will it count as a "clicker" or "macro"?

As long as it's within reason, it should be fine. No one had any issue with the macros set up for Carrier Voiceattack, as you still had to do the bulk of the work aiming and controlling the aircraft, it just made selecting the aircraft easier for those with disabilities. If you're creating an ability that tracks and fires without input, that's cutting it close.
