But a Super-Container had doubloons in it and there was a really good sale... I bought Atlanta. A little while ago I used the RADAR with great effect against a DD who smoked and sat just before I came around an island. Anyone who says Atlanta can't kill DDs hasn't played either. I melted the DD before my radar ran out, so not long. 8.5 km range is awesome - if you're the Atlanta. Radar that can "see" through rocks is almost as broken as Bismarck secondaries. Maybe even more broken. I feel dirty for killing that DD. Think I need to do it again...

Do it enough times and you'll eventually just be desensitized. Going against ships with radar sucks whenever I'm in a DD, but it's part of the game. If they are all by themselves, they might as well accept their fate (like I have a bunch of times).

I always forgot it was there, so I swapped it for the other consumable option. (I REALLY hate tb's) Well, that and the pve bots are "somewhat" lacking in subtlety, lol. They never stealth fire, and ALWAYS outrun their smoke. However, invisifiring and ships that can drop their detectability down to obscene levels are even more evil- so don't feel bad about ruining their days. It's what Light Cruisers DO. (revenge to my first dd deletion via atlanta hehehe...) charging in while hugging islands is my way to go! (works on any ship just charge in with ur torpedus ready.) Under no circumstances should a DD ever sail in the direction of her. If you think you have the element of surprise, you don't live long enough still. I think lot of DDs know better than to approach Atlantas because they are commonly seen. Indianapolis is a much rarer ship. I don't think many people know what it does or that it has a radar. They seem to assume it is a tougher Pensacola with lower detection ratings. I bag close to a DD a game with her. Either I hang back with the BBs so I don't get spotted first and become an enemy BB target piñata, and invariably an enemy DD comes by to try to sneak-attack the BBs, or I sit by an island where the DDs come by and jump them when they reveal themselves. If you wait until they are like 7k and light them up with radar they really can't escape. Indy can charge them bow-on and just dodge the torps. 3 salvos from the 6 bow guns if you can target anything resembling their side, is all you need. They funny thing is smart DDs should just leave if they see you coming due to the radar (the ships really doesn't hide well) but they never do. I actually bagged a Leander trying the same thing on Sunday. He tried to come up the center channel on Two Brothers. I waited bow-on for him to emerge and jumped him at 5k range. He tried to smoke but my radar was having none of that. British CLs are great fun to kill in Indianapolis because they can't hurt you with guns if you are bow-on, you can easily dodge their torps from bow-on, and they aren't fast enough to outrun you or sturdy enough to outlast you. The radar at T7 is the main thing that makes Indy nice. It's like the Spanish Inquisition. No one expects it. It makes DDs and British CLs easy meat.
619 [-GPS-] Landing_Skipper Members 2,955 posts 46,754 battles Report post #13 Posted November 1, 2016 DD players surprise me. I was in a Tier 7-9 battle yesterday on Tears of the Desert, a BIG map, thinking "what the heck can I contribute?" I lit up a Fletcher at max radar range and he escaped only singed. However, I was snuggled up to an island and pestering a BB with HE when he thought he would ambush me. Huh? I think a plane had spotted him, so I knew he was headed my way. Lit up radar, he smoked and slowed and died. Why would you get within 4 km of an Atlanta when you're in a DD? I only did about 20K of damage in that battle, but as a Tier 7 CL in a 7-9 battle, I figure killing one of their DDs was a decent contribution to the team effort.
