I see it in the premium shop, its a beautiful ship but is it worth the cash? I have the Terpitz and am at the Bayern, close to it's sister ship Gneisenau.

if you have the tirp then it does become redundant. You could always keep the Gnies which is free. It may be wise to spend your money on a future premium ship in a different nation. It would be the wise choice but if you really want it then get it. Life is too short to care. If it enhances your life it was money well spent.

Belfast is just around the corner too mind you.

A perfect ship at the perfect tier. Trust me, you won't regret it..unless you can't play it :read_fish:

If I can't play it, I'll just have to learn :P

Does it play like a cruiser or a battleship?

Scharnhorst works best as a Cruiser-killer. She can handle BBs but the opposing BB has to be worn down from damage or one can try the Torpedo charge.

For me, the Scharny plays very similar with Fuso, that is, when she's in a tier 8 game.

Guns are capable of punishing boardside, yet angling really hurts the poor penetration.

The guns on Scharny rewards skillful aiming(Deciding where to shoot according to the angling) and smart ammo choice.

Except one thing....

The Scharn is not afraid of dds, unlike fuso. Her guns not only prevent overpens on Cruisers, but also on Destroyers.

Several nice chain fire salvo will send any dd to the bottom within 6km, while your manuverbility allows you to dodge torps withoug problem giving that you are not caught in a crossfire.

I just got her, and I've almost finished the Gneisenau grind.  Between the two, I'd say the Scharnhorst is a more "fun" ship, since the guns actually do something at range.  The Gneisenau requires getting close to get the real damage done since the guns can't hit worth a darn at range, but the Scharnhorst seems to have more options.  She is 2 kts slower then the Gneisenau though.

Thanks for the suggestion to buy it - bought it and love it so far. Definitely unique gameplay. So far I've seen it's guns also worked against battleships at close range (at least non-angled). I can't call it a battlecruiser because it's got armor and not big guns but same idea. I'll defiantly be playing this a lot. I probably should stop buying premium ships now that I got this and the Lo Yang this week alone. I mean I have so many now that I can't play them all as much as I want to as is and grind all the lines I'm trying to.

Great guide - very helpful subscribed to the channel for the rest of them, thanks! Entertaining, watching the rest now.

The Scharnie is the faster of the two but not by much. Gneisenau; 28.8 knots. Scharnhorst; 30 knots.

And the Scharnie is definitely worth getting.

I have her and the Tirpitz , she works well, very well.  I love the Cruisers and she is a BattleCruiser in my book.  Well worth it to me

It only takes 8000exp to upgrade the engine to 32kts on the Gneisenau.  Most player's battles with this ship will be with the upgraded engine, which is faster then every other battleship apart from the Iowa.

Fun ship to play.  Fast ship with torps.  Oh and fast guns too.  Great in a knife fight.  At times I feel she does better than my Tirpitz.  If u can spare the change I would get it.  It really brings a bit of a challenge to play her well, maybe thst is why I like to play her so much.

I have Schinyhorst, Gneisenau and Tirpitz. I find them all to be sufficiently different form each other to not be redundant.  Lately, I've been mainly alternating between Schinyhorst and Gneisenau, just about all day and every day, banking XPs and exchange credits.

NC, Iowa and Hotel Yamato mostly spends days and weeks sunbathing in port.

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you are a history buff, absolutely. If you have Tirpitz, pretty much no. Otherwise it depends on whether you like the playstyle. They are fast for their tier. They are good at killing cruisers; better than most BB at killing DDs, worse than most BB at killing other BB. Personally, I love listening to Sharnhorst's shells bounce off of me in a BB. It is especially hysterical in lower tier BBs like Arizona or Bayern. You can set the sound to the Anvil Chorus for special effect. lol.

Ten hours left so grab it whilst you can. I played a while in beta and got bored then stopped and just came back to the game and find it is hugely improved so much so I dropped a $50 on the scharnhorst with 30 days premium and equipment deal. After just limited low tier usn and ruskie cruiser play I felt very comfortable with the heavy cruiser like performance and it's just so damn well rounded with plenty of everything from great aa(including a fighter) to those rapid fire mains and the super secondaries not to forget the near 14k damage torp salvos you can toss when in secondary range. If even a higher tier bb slips up and lets you inside the 6km mark then it's toast and anything lesser just melts. You could easily charge two or even three non torp cruisers and expect to win with possibly minimal damage.

Love the Scharn, but the transition in thinking from standard KM BB to this game style is a bit challenging for my brain. Fast becoming my favorite ship.

Except if you have someone like me who aims for Super Structures, then you start to notice HP going down

I love my Scharnhorst, from a history stand point, she's my favorite German BB, only because, out of the entire German Battleship fleet of 4 Battleships, Scharnhorst has the most distinguished career. She's literally their most successful Battleship. She's also, along with her sister, the most beautiful. That's why I absolutely love her. And she performs how I want her to perform, her AP pen can be a bit less wonky, but thats fine by me. She's just an absolute beauty to sail.

So I say she's worth getting. Especially if you love her to bits like I and the rest of her fans.
