Tier 3-4 ships are usual nightmare stuff.....except that Russian tier III cruiser. It looks so bad [edited].

So should I free XP myself to the Emerald or straight to Leander?

I have only a little over 80,000 Free XP. Thanks!

Go to Fiji If you can Emerald is absolute garbage. I haven't tried the Leander myself so cant comment on it. But Fiji is a monster!

Tier 5 is just sucks for cruisers, in general. You'll see lots of tier 7 ships.

The Leander seems to be where the line starts to get good. I'm quite enjoying mine. Smoke works well. Torps are decent. Range isn't as good as I'd like and the shell arcs remind you of American cruisers, but the ships works and works well.

All you have to remember is that EVERYONE on the enemy team will ignore other targets to try to kill you. Do that and you'll be fine.

Leander is where the tree starts getting good.

If you say so...

Wymouth I ground through and sold, though my stats in it are above average. Caledon I like and have kept; my win rate is bad, but my average damage in it is above average. Both I ground through normally, with no fxp or doubloon-retraining, using the captain that started in Black Swan.

Danae has been a blast; no issues with it so far, and above average stats, though a low current sample.

No, dont free XP, just play a couple of games in Coop. She's great fun in there, 70K damage games are not unusual, and you'll be through her in no time.

Emerald blows massive donkey balls.

You hear that? that's the sound of your shell shattering, ricocheting and missing against everything you fire at.

I recommend watch Flamu's video on the Belfast first.  It's a premium version of Fiji (I think); however the same basic technique applies (slam on the brakes, pop smoke when speed is below 15 knots, pop hydro, blast everything).

Go to Leander, Emerald is a glorified Tier IV facing up to Tier VII.

Leander is where the tree starts getting good.

What he said ^^^^^^^^

Also voting for Leander.

Though I would also suggest going back to the Emerald and figuring out how to make it work, once you've gone farther up the line. Emerald can be fun, and can be a good ship, it just has a very, very, very high skill floor. Once you get it it's suddenly really powerful. It might actually make a good seal clubber, in the hands of a good player with a fully trained captain.

It just doesn't play like any type of cruiser. It's less like a cruiser than Atlanta is.

I didn't find it powerful at all, even playing only in Co-op. Can't imagine trying to play that POS in Random; stats say it does not perform as well as Kirov or Konigsberg -- I'd much rather be in either of those than Emerald. What do you mean it is less like a cruiser than Atlanta?

Emerald is trash, but is in a much better place overall than the other tier 5 cruisers when uptiered. The smoke lets you have some moments of relevance compared to Omaclones, Kirov, Furutaka, and Konigsberg.

All of the tier 5 cruisers tier up very poorly, but the Emerald gets tools to at least perform some duties well.
