I can't stand the turret layout (it honestly offends my sensibilities having that rear facing turret on the front) and I just can't do well in them. In the battles I played yesterday with Haguro, I was averaging around 25k damage, and they were all losses. I know not to show my broadside if at all possible, but I have to turn away from the enemy so often so I can actually get more than two guns shooting, that I end up just getting smacked when I turn. And I don't even turn right out in the open most of the time, I actually wait to either disappear or have some sort of cover. Should I just sail in reverse all the time so I can avoid turning and keep more guns firing? Or am I just going to have to make such a colossal shift in my playstyle, that I am probably never going to enjoy these ships much?

The turret configuration of that ship requires forward-thinking.

While your turrets will still be slow, they'll reduce your rotation time by like 3 seconds giving you a few extra seconds to dodge after firing a shot. But the Myoko is a rewarding ship if you play her well, plan ahead, never go alone and make sure there is a more diserable target for the enemy in front of you. Also hug the islands and try to hide in them if there is any. Also retreat at the first sparks of trouble towards your ship, don't wait for the fire.

Here are a few tips off the top of my head. Don't feel the need to shoot alll your turrets, wait until the enemy has fired to expose the other turrets so it's safe. Don't expect to be able to aggressively torp people, the torps face toward the rear so you have to be facing away to be able to hit. Learn how to farm fires on ships and to bait repair so you can set fires that stick. Be constantly adjusting course to upset people's aim. Learn how to wiggle to keep your turrets on target when you fire but also avoid shells headed at you.
