When to be Concerned

So lately I finally managed to get my hands on the glorious North Carolina.  I have been learning something new about her every match that I play with her and currently have about 15  matches under my belt so far.

My question however is, at what point do I need to become concerned with my personal stats with her? AvgDMG keeps going up which is good as is survival, but WR is touch and go. I figure I'm not quite to that point yet where ship WR should be tooo concerning, but I figured I would get everyone's opinion on the matter.

 :hiding:

Thanks in advance!!

Depending on who you ask, personal stats can either be as important as food, water, and air to you or as unimportant as a single grain of sand on the beach.  Just play your best, don't hang back and snipe like the majority of BB drivers, and take the fight to the enemy.  The rest will take care of itself.

There is one question that you need to ask yourself. "Do you care?"

Do you play the game for fun every now and then or are you a hardcore stat warrior and want full purples in your sig?

When I first got my NC I had not played a ship with guns in thousands of matches. I was doing the CV grind and just free xp'd my way to it. I was absolute trash in it. This was before it got some serious buffs though. I stopped caring about the numbers and just worked on improving. Now I do pretty good in it after playing a lot of Cruiser and Battleships.

Mostly I "play for fun" but I prefer to not look like trash so to speak. Stats aren't my main concern but I kinda view it like a resumé; some look at it while others simply glaze over it, and I prefer to have at least the current holdings that I do. I am by no means a Purple Poseidon nor do I intend to be (just don't have the time)

Well - unless stats have some hidden advantage that I'm simply not getting - then I'd have to answer that you don't need to be concerned at all with your win rate!

As far as I know - your stats in this game will have no impact on your annual salary, your over-all health - or your personal charisma and charm.

Look - I get it - we're a bunch of reasonably intelligent monkeys, and we love to complicate the simple, focus on minutiae, quantify results and measure ourselves against others (and - often more brutally - against ourselves).  For most of us our stats  adds another layer of enjoyment to our playing this game.

Just don't buy in too deeply - stat obsession has ruined this (and many games like it) for a whole lot of folks - and asking if you should be concerned about your win rate is likely a sign you're headed in that direction.

Don't sweat it - just enjoy playing the game for the game-play itself.  If you find your obsessing about your stats is hindering that enjoyment (raging after every three match losing streak, for example) - then dump your stat site bookmarks and commit to not looking at your statistics at all.

Its all too much for some folks - and its a shame when stats obsession drives all the enjoyment from the game.

The only thing that your own stats tell you is how consistent you are and whether you are improving.  As long as you continue to improve and can play well consistently, who cares about your stats.

I wouldn't be too concerned. The move from Colorado to NC requires you to learn a whole lot of new tricks, and that takes time. Maybe after a 100 battles or so, if you still haven't figured out how to play it by then...

This. Personally I want to not only enjoy playing this game, but I want to be good at it while enjoying. And while there are losses that are real fun games, more often I find that I have more fun on winning games. Does that make me a stat wh......well, stat junkie? Dunno.

My take is try to do better. Set small goals. One goal that changes each game, depending on ship, is "Do more damage than I have health". Generally I set the "more damage" to be "twice as much". If I am in a ship with 30k hp, I want 60k damage. My battleships? I want atleast 1.5x as much damage as health. Destoryers? 4 times as much damage because if my Fletcher only does ~20k damage in a game...That is not enough to justify my position in a Fletcher. But it happens.

So, small goals. More damage, more kills, more hits...whatever it is you set it as.

^^^ What they all said, don't worry about your stats, especially Win Rate.

As for the NC, I've got 92 battles in so far, and have found that the ship really needs to get inside 10k to be most effective. The NoCal is definitely not a camper. Hook up with another NC, or a Bismarck that is willing to push with you and tear it up. Try not to be too concerned about using your rear turret, too. Stay bow on, and use the rear turret only when a quick side shot is needed between reloads. If you weave back and forth to make the rear turret usable you will be exposing too much side armor.  This should help with damage and hit percentage, which are the main stats I look at when comparing ships.

No, it doesn't. While you definitely don't want to snipe with it, optimal range is 12-15km. Getting closer than that only makes it worse.

My only tip for BB play

You should end each match at least half dead and feeling like you just fought your way through hell. Alive if possible, with chances to disengage and heal up for short spells.

The worst thing in game is a BB at the end of the match in pristine condition, win or loss, because it means your DDs and CLs took damage you should have tanked.

I agree. Although I have had some inexplicable games where I have 80% health left and all my repairs, other times I have taken almost 100k damage.
