Yashima or Stalingrad?

So I found out today, via no zoup for you's video, that Yashima will be released as a steel ship. Obviously, I don't know how much she will cost at the moment. I do know however, that right now, in order to get the Stalingrad next patch, all I would have to do is hit rank 6 in ranked to get the 21k steel I would need "using my coupon." I've wanted the Stalingrad for awhile now, but opted to get the Bourgogne first, which I did three months ago since I primarily play BBs. Part of me wants to stick true to my original goal of getting the Stalingrad next. However, I've long wanted a super yamato class in the game, so part of me wants to work towards the Yashima instead. The Stalingrad has proven herself to just about everyone who owns her " my clanmates who own her included," that she is more than worth the investment, and they have all assured me I wouldn't regret adding the "balancedgrad" to my port. Yashima on the other hand is just a Yamato with fewer, albeit larger guns. More importantly 510mm doesn't hit any meaningful overmatch threshold in the game and you deal with a painful reload on 6 guns. Also, not enough players have gotten to sail her yet to determine if she is worth the investment or not. Despite all this, I'm still having trouble deciding. Any thoughts?

Smolensk vs stalingrad

I need some feedback , what are the pros and cons from stalingrad and smolensk . Whos better? What should i pick? Pd: I dont the enough resource to buy both
3. As a someone who primarily plays BBs, I've always kept an eye on the development and eventual introduction of new BB lines to the game. As of right now, off the top of my head, there seem to be actual ships available to fill several yet to be introduced lines, including: a British 2nd BB or battlecruiser line, a German battlecruiser line that might have no actual ships to fill in at above tier 8, a Japanese 2nd BB line featuring ships cancelled by the treaties and/or those that couldn't be built (like the replacement for the Kongos), an Italian BB line, and maybe just maybe a Russian/Soviet BB line. Out of all of those lines, I find the Russian/Soviet line to be the most elusive and potentially tricky to implement obviously due to historical facts and circumstances. But considering WG's background, I doubt a Russian/Soviet BB line is something they would be willing to give up on easily. (Unless they wanna go down the free xp or pay to win route ) As player, I think having such tech tree line might add good and welcomed content to the game, as BBs are relatively rare in comparison to smaller ships in history. It seems that some of the previous discussions on the forums and online on this topic point to a tree that roughly works out like this: Tier 3 - some variant of a prototype dreadnought or semi-dreadnought (as the Nikolai and ships similar to it might be too strong for tier 3, while Andrei Pervozvanny class pre-dreadnoughts might be too weak?) Tier 4 & 5 - variants or versions of the Gangut and/or Imperatritsa Mariya classes of dreadnoughts in different stages of modernization both historical or speculative Tier 6 - Borodino class battlecruisers: 4x3 356mm main battery and capable of 26.5 knots before modernization Tier 7 - Kronshtadt class battlecruiser, or a version of it: a configuration of the ship that uses 3x2 380mm German guns was mentioned? (it kind of becomes a Russian Gneisenau in game?) Tier 8 - Stalingrad class battlecruiser, or a version of it: it seems that the plan is to make them stand out as fast and having higher DPM than typical BBs in exchange for their marginal armor and smaller gun caliber? Tier 9 - Sovetsky Soyuz class battleship: it'll be the highest HP (60K ston displacement) and tankiest BB at tier 9, although probably also the slowest (28 knots) and a big target for HE spam? Tier 10 - Project 24 battleship (super Sovetsky Soyuz): this could get tricky in regards to the game's meta depending on how the ship's implemented. I've read that the ship is to be the tier 9 ship upgunned with 9x457mm guns, others mention 430mm guns, while others spoke of a design influenced by the Italians? As far as premium ships are concerned: The Novorossiysk (ex Italian battleship Giulio Cesare rearmed with Soviet 305mm guns and AA guns) should be a suitable tier 5 and fairly similar to Italian version of it (maybe with less gun alpha but higher dpm and better aa?) Meanwhile the Arkhangelsk (ex HMS Royal Sovereign) could make a decent tier 6 premium BB as a slower but better armored QE class BB? At tier 8, the Italian (Ansaldo) designed U.P. 41 battleship could also make a decent premium ship. It should be a Littorio class style BB uparmed with 3x3 406mm guns and an inferior torpedo defense system? To me, this rough idea on the line seem to work and I would love to eventually grind this line should it ever become available. But then as you all know, recently the Kronshtadt and Stalingrad have both been introduced into the game as high tier cruisers with some BB traits. That fact alone might signal the scuttling of a full tech tree BB line for the Soviets/Russians in the future. So how do you feel about this? What you think should be WG's proper plan moving forward regarding this? Can a proper Russian/Soviet BB line still work without the Kronshtadt and the Stalingrad? What have you heard about this recently? I'd love to hear from you all but would regret to miss out on this line in game...

Balance Wargaming, not "balans".

This chart compares the results of 102 NA players who own Stalingrad and their other t10 cruisers : taken from this reddit post : I understand this is a sensitive issue, that makes butts itch and triggers the downvote left mouse click, which is why I (re)posted this. (I am an imperfectly kinda neutral observer critic in this debate, neither owning Stalingrad, nor playing tier 10 ships very often.) edit : alternative study and thread created by @Spartias here :
5. The proposed super cruiser tier 10, Azuma, is an admission by WG that Stalingrad, was released in an OP condition. Why? Azuma with the proposed stats, without special rules for her AP, is essentially, a nerfed Stalingrad. This does not mean she is a bad ship, not at all, Azuma will be perfectly capable vs her peers, but she will not be capable of influencing battle outcomes as greatly as Stalingrad, when driven by unicum players. Stalingrad has quickly asserted a role as the "Belfast of tier 10", the "Graf Zeppelin press battle2win bote", in the hands of competent owners, according to respected EU server commentators. There are two ways WG can address a problem, which by releasing Azuma, it is admitting, a) By releasing Azuma, WG can permanently remove Stalingrad from the Arsenal. b) Stalingrad can be nerfed to specifications identical to its tier 10 sister ship, Moskva, becoming in all but name, a Moskva skin. B) is unlikely, as WG has a policy of not nerfing premium ships A) is possible, numerous examples of this having occured (Kutusov, Belfast, just to name 2) In the same vein, the release of Jean Bart (an uptiered t8 Richelieu) can be interpreted as a rebuke to game development/production that has downtiered tier 10s and flooded tier 9 gameplay with, frankly sharks in a goldfish bowl, Yamato>Musashi, Moskva>Kronstadt, which has created the untenable position of the likes of a tier 9 Ibuki, fighting tier 10 ready Kronstadts, or Alsaces expected to go toe to toe vs tier 10 capable Musashis. Is the removal of Musashi from the Arsenal yet more evidence of a shift in WG game developmental policy. All of the above is my personal opinion, largely inspired by some EU forum discussions. What do you all think? EU debate : https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/108941-the-azuma-the-poor-mans-stalingrad/

So close, yet so far...

First time for me to make a bragging post, but I hope it's somewhat justified. When the stars align, and your enemy allows you to land perfect shots, while your own team does not fully capitalize on it (or in the case of my poor divmate detonate from a stray Secondary shell, oopsie~ <3), you will find yourself in a spot where the damage numbers keep ticking and ticking and ticking. My damage record got broken, Hindenburg has been dethroned from being my highest damage ship, and Z-23 lost her spot for the highest Base XP in a single match. Stalingrad pushed them aside, and claims her throne. Damn... only 6k more damage... maybe in the next life~
7. Hello i am still new here and these are my thoughts about the new economy system: My instincts are telling me that something isn't right with the Steel/Coal economy. See at the start "nobody" had steel or coal but at least you could get it on containers(supercontainers) i made this calculations if you get 2 coal containers and complete the first daily mission you get a minimum of 1000 coal so if you play every day you will get a minimum of 30000 coal per month. now lets say that you want a ship lets say the Musashi priced at 180000 coal; you can add a coupon and reduce the price to 120000 coal but that's at least 4 months of grind and thats a lot of grind now lets think about coal and pricing at the most in one day if you get very lucky you can get at a maximum 4000 coal so thats good but almost impossible of getting every day for 30 days straight. Now about coal ships pricing... One could say that their prices are very much in line with the regular ships: Musashi 180000 coal - Izumo 178000 xp Salem 240000 coal - Des Moines 237500 xp Black 14000 Steel/140000 coal(converted) - Fletcher 158000 xp these prices are about right until now. from now on we should see prices like these: Jean Bart 226000 coal - Alsace 190000 xp Bourgogne 30000 steel/ 300000 coal (converted) - Republique 260000 xp Stalingrad 28000 steel/ 280000 coal (converted) - Moskva 235000 xp Because before we had artificial scarcity and now people are starting to retain some coal, and these prices will continue to go up and yes i know you cant convert coal into steel (yet(they introduced 3 new rare metal categories, but for what you might ask...... hum? )) i do think that they will allow us to convert doubloons into steel rather than coal into steel but for that they would need to get their pricing right (and destroy/reprice the current grind shenanigans for coal and remove some ships cuz they would be to cheap for us to buy). lets discuss it below
8. It can be done captains...it can be done.
9. Title of my stream on twitch that you can answer if you would be kind enough to watch and chat. Or... if you are not inclined to watch feel free to post your thoughts below.
10. This is exactly why, there is literally no possible way to defeat a lineup like this other than by having the exact same yourself. Why is this even an option? I thought that the Stalingrad was banned from comp play.
11. intro So, I've realized that everyone has been having different opinions on how strong(or not) the stalingrad is, but I dont see any actual stat comparison of stalingrad, mainly because we all know how the stalingrad playerbase compare to all players i decided to do a "stalingrad owner stat comparison" myself. i went to wows-numbers's stalingrad leaderboard and got the 53 names on there, and add 6 more people that i know that have stalingrad (i dont know how else to obtain a list of stalingrad owners) this is a very limited sample size, but this is the best i can do so this comparison has a total of 59 people, 59 possible data points next, i went to warships.today to get recent stats. all time stats are severely skewed depending what each person's first tech tree line is, recent stat is a far better evaluation of a person's performance wows-numbers doesnt offer "stats of a specific time period" function, i had to use warship.today (and for whatever reason i have severe connection issue to warships.today, more than half the time i spent was on spamming F5 button) i mostly choose periods of between 90 and 365 days, within 90 days i think there's too little battle, over 365 days i think the person improved too much and it's not fair to include the ancient stats in the comparison but sometimes warships.today decide to do this and i had no choice but to use the 2.5 years old data skewed heavily in favour of stalingrad (there is one person that i just skipped him because warships.today wouldnt cooperate, leaving me with 58 data points) therefore some of the data points are somewhat skewed in favour of stalingrad only ships with more than 10 battles over the period is included also, keep in mind all the buffs/nerfs to these ships within last year hindenburg received a HE pen buff, several patches later a ROF nerf, very recently a repair party buff(this is the most complicated case, stats could either be stronger or weaker what it should be in its current state) henri IV received main battery reload booster(stats are mostly weaker than what it should be in its current state) zao received 12km torp(stats are mostly weaker than what it should be in its current state) moskva received bow armour buff(impact should be minimal) the actual comparison(summary) ok here we go the summary the "any ship" is kind of a "stalingrad versus everyone else" thing, for each person i chose the highest damage from all other ships, and treat all that as a separate ship salem is exclude because too little people own it of these 58 people, more than 60% has at least a ship with higher average damage than their stalingrad, less than 40% has stalingrad as their highest average damage cruiser if we look closely, only hindenburg has a higher average damage than stalingrad. but like stated above, hindenburg is very complicated, i have no way of telling when most people played their hindenburg. i guess this could only be answered by WG themselves, but let's just say damage-wise, hindenburg ≈ stalingrad zao and henri are both only lower than stalingrad by less than 4000, but like mentioned above, both zao and and henri received buffs during this 300 day period, i dont think every single person only played those 2 ships after their buff, so i do believe there are a significant amount of pre-buff data mixed within(at least for myself, i played both henri and zao before the buff, and those stats are counted toward the comparison) therefore in their current state, both zao and henri should be stronger than what their stats showed, so again let's just say damage-wise, both (current) zao and henri IV ≈ stalingrad and then the other 4 ships are a significant distance behind hindenburg stalingrad zao and henri. worcester is lower by ~10k, moskva and des moines by 15k, minotaur by 27k conclusion: in the list of stalingrad players, in terms of damage, hindenburg ≈ stalingrad ≈ zao ≈ henri IV > worcester > moskva ≈ des moines > minotaur the actual comparison(ship by ship) in this part, i plotted the average of stalingrad agaisnt another ship, person by person take zao for example, a person's stalingrad average damage is the X value, the same person's zao average damage is the Y value the amount of data point for each plot is listed above in the "total people with both....." row how to read the plots (interpretation might include strong personal opinion) i'm kind of just providing a quick guide as to how to understand the plots, it contains a lot of my personal opinion. the plots however are not affected by my personal opinion, so you can interpret the data any way your want and here are the plots for each ship zao is interesting, i dont know if the 12xk stlg/80k zao outlier affect the plot too much, but the trendline seems to show that zao is a lot more noob friendly than stalingrad but if we remove the few outliers, they are pretty clustered around the x=y line, meaning zao and stlg are roughly equal, with more points bottom right than top left if we remove the outlier at 14xk stlg/11kx hind, it's again pretty much clustered around the x=y line, with more points top left than bottom right no significant outlier there, fit line almost perfectly overlap with x=y. dmg of stlg and HIV almost grow at the same pace with skill, and overall their damage is also almost identical interestingly though, all 5 out of the 6 data points in the top right corner(both ships avg dmg above 120k) have higher HIV avg dmg than stlg. the last point have almost identical avg dmg in both ships the rest are just straight out inferior, nothing worth mentioning here a bunch of stuff so....here's all the plots i can come up with from this limited set of data, if you learned something new, good. if you didnt, welp ╮(╯▽╰)╭ why did i do damage? because this is the easist trackable value. for win rate id need to look at solo que/2man div/3man div. average kill? could work, but today only gives kill to 1 decimal place. numbers give it to 2 decimal place, but numbers cant isolate data over a period of time so i'd end up working with a value ranging from 0 to ~2 with increments of 0.1.............no, i dont want to do that so, this is just a comparison in terms of raw damage delt of stalingrad vs another ship from people that own both, in random battles only this is not meant to show how "good" stalingrad is overall. the performance of a ship is a very complicated thing, and raw damage number cant represent it all, but at least it's a rough reflection of its performances i dont want to draw conclusion on whether it's overpowered or what not, i'd rather just present to plots and let you guys decide the link to all the images are here https://imgur.com/a/2hO03ft Ive also upload the excel chart https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UjTortu2NfQ97J385pHrVYbwAmN2I_ZN feel free to take the data i recorded from warships.today and do whatever analysis you want with it. just remember to post your result back here

Steel for the Scrubs!

Good news, on the EU forum the following has been published by a forum member claiming this to be a leak (so not official). Many will note that such ships as Flint will be easily obtainable by lazy undeserving sods like me, while others might decide a tier 10 premium without the high skill and committment of clan battles is an attractive route, Brokengrad for the masses. of course, a minority will be unhappy, those who earned these ships the hard way. What do you think? Steel events : + In The Name Of His Highness! : max 8k steel (4 stages with 4 directives each, 500 per directive) The new game event «In the Name of His Highness!» is dedicated to the heyday of armored ships of the early 20th century. It will last 4 weeks. There are 4 stages of the event. Each stage consists of 4 directives. Each Directive contains 10 to 11 tasks. There is a corresponding reward of camouflage, signals, Christmas containers and even steel. And continuing our new year's tradition, the main prize will be a new premium tier VI German battleship - Prinz Eitel Friedrich! Rules for completing directives are similar to the Royal Navy event. After the completion of all directives, access to the Hall of Fame is unlocked, for which points can be earned in co-op, random, ranked, clan, scenario or special battles. + Steel Giants : max 6k steel (5 stages, 750-750-1000-1500-2000), doable in Co-op and Operation battles It will be available for purchase in the premium store. The campaign is dedicated to the construction of ships in the early 20th century. By completing its tasks and missions, you can get camouflage, signals, «Secret Santa» containers and steel. + Snowflakes : max 100 steel per tech tree T9/T10 ship, max 200 coal per tech tree T5-T8 ship including premiums Snowflakes are a one-time new year bonus, which is active as part of update 0.7.12. The bonus will work on tech-tree ships from tiers V to X and premium and promo ships from tiers II to X. To "blow off a snowflake" from the ship, you need to go into battle in any mode except Training room and win. For this you will receive resources for the Arsenal: coal and steel. The higher the level - the more resources you get. The bonus may be “blown off” only once for each ship during the event. This means that the more ships you have in the port, the more resources you can get for the Arsenal. original discussion here : https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/56433-discussion-thread-for-some-interesting-info-around-the-world/?page=505&tab=comments#comment-2743249 reddit thread here : https://old.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/a0iz3m/steel_calculations_for_upcoming_events/

Stalingrad: Hot or Not?

Keep it civil, I want to see what the public thinks of this new Balans Bote. Remember, we're all entitled to our opinions. But if you have one, back it up with proof. Thanks guys!
14. So, can someone explain how this is possible? 828 random battles, 29 ranked battles.
15. Stalingrad Preview... yeah, it’s powerful. Very powerful.

Stalingrad Rumor

So I herd that the new Stalingrad ship is to only be given out to the 7 players that play the final clan wars? If so, I would like to see a change to that. You have players that are either sick, have a wedding or even a baby. When the top players are not there to play, there are other players that step up like a back up quarter back in the NFL and really made a difference to keep us going forward; when we didn't have the key players. Lets say the Stalingrad symbolizes a Superbowl ring, you wouldn't give just a super bowl ring to Tom Brady and a couple players; No the whole team of 55 players gets a ring and staff. However rules to apply in WOW so that inactive players dont get rewarded or accounts with no games played. Heres a list I came up with. Players in a clan requirements for Stalingrad final reward. 1) Should have contributed at least 1000 oil to their fleet 2) Should have played at least 500 games on their account. 3) Should have at least played one clan battle
