Tech - Bionic Beaver vs Windows 10?

One of the things I have been doing if getting rid of trash in my house. And this leads into old tech trash. I have a couple of old laptops, running earlier Windows versions such as Vista and XP. I don't want to take the laptops to the dump, but instead I want to recycle them to young children (5 to 10 years old) I know as their first system. The laptops work, but the software and drivers are defunct being Windows OS. So I took a Win Vista system and converted it to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Long Term Service (5 yrs)). Was I ever surprised what was created for an OS. Even more I was surprised by the amount of software created by the open sourced software. I was surprised more that only 2.9GB was used by Linux as the OS for disk space. Amazing. I can see Steam, Audacity, Chrome, and many other software brands that were download capable. The list to me this is astounding. So after getting the laptop going loaded with Ubuntu, this got me thinking. Why do I need to go with Windows 10 for my next system? In theory WoWS can run on a Ubuntu system using the Wine interface. The only thing I have to worry about is getting a Ubuntu video editor for my videos on You Tube. I know there are players out there that play WoWS on Linux systems. What are your opinions in going full with Linux as a OS? Is system performance better? I would like to hear the good and the bad POVs.
  2. Ok, I've been a Linux user for years, and I really do not want to switch to Windows to just play world of warships, to this day, since 2015, it's been my comfort game of choice. Anyway, earlier i got a warning through email about using modified software, and I think it's related to the Steam version of the WoWs client. The latest update is no longer using 32 bit architecture, instead, it's using 64 bit, before this update, in order to use my WG account, I renamed the steam_api.dll file to something and it would work. Yesterday I changed all the "steam_api.dll" files to something else (5 or 6 files in total) and still wouldn't log in. I found there is a steam_api64.dll file, and renaming that it let me log in to WoWs, and what i think it is the reason of the warning I would like, before being banned for using Steam to play WoWs, to please add an option to be able to use our WG account when using Steam OR help me import my WG account into my Steam WOWs account OR do a linux client that uses proton I will be upset for a few hours if i'm banned from WoWs, but hell, I moved on from far more toxic things in my life, leaving you guys behind is not going to kill me. So there, please help me, help you avoid using "modified software" in order to play I'm certain i'm not the only one affected by this. Thanks for your time.
