WizardFerret posted a topic in General Game DiscussionSo on Wednesday, WG finally decided to make a buff for Hakuryu. While it did do some justice to the ship and it is good to see they are finally trying to fix some of the damage done, there is still one particular thing about Hakuryu. The buff only affected the 2 drop version of the torpedo bombers. The 4 drop version can cause good damage if you manage to push home an accurate strike, but the combination of the nerfs greatly hinders their potential. The fact that they fly on flak level whereas the 2 drop variant avoids flak damage by flying under it, the fact that the aim is so slow and wide at the start, makes using them very uncomfortable. I think the best choice here is to buff the aiming and preparation time to be like the 0.8.0 version or at least close, but changing nothing else, except maybe slightly increasing torpedo speed if necessary. Making them comfortable and reliable to use, while still taking AA damage, will mean that the player will value the planes much more, but even if you lose a few planes pushing home a few accurate strikes with one squad would be worth it. In conclusion, the 0.8.0 Hakuryu had some good qualities and a rather large skill gap, average and bad players could barely get over 100k whereas the very skilled and unicum players could easily get 400k and above. So, the idea that CVs could be insanely overpowered when in the right hands, but not so good when in the hands of a poor player, I like it very much.
I get why the hotfix was needed. There were many issues, including the Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free -F Key and a few overpowered carriers. Now, things have gone in the opposite direction. There was obviously a change to the "F" key. Planes are no longer invulnerable. (Which is good!). However -- in most cases -- *all* planes are shot down before they can get out of range. Medium range and short-range flak *melts* planes. There is no way to dodge. Between this and #1 (above), most sorties are suicide missions. Torpedos are nerfed, also. I went from a semi-narrow spread to a wide spread. ...no matter what I did. Now, I'm lucky to get *one* torpedo hit per pass, whereas my Tier 6 carriers could at least get two torpedo hits pre-hotfix. Maybe the carriers were too powerful before, now they are too weak. I feel like I was *finally* getting the hang of everything...but now I can't really play CVs because the planes melt away. I get it...things needed to be balanced. But again...suicide missions do not = balance. My last game, I lost 65 aircraft and only had 23,000 damage to show for it. The games before that, I lost 59 planes and had 5k damage, and before that, lost 47 planes and got 20k damage. In all cases, most of the damage was done with rockets. Torpedo planes can't hit much with the ultra-wide spread. Dive bombers don't survive the AA flak long enough to drop. It's....frustrating. I'm going back to playing other ships for a while. I understand that CVs -- and other ships -- needed to be balanced. And maybe things will be better at the higher tiers. However, I'm not going to get there if I have to continually endure the games that I've just played. </end rant> <edit> Even the planes that complete an attack are shot down now. Nothing survives.
I've never played a CV match. My preferred ship type is DD but I'm not enjoying the new way I'm forced to play them. So I was wondering if the CV players grinding through the lines can tell me about the experience. I dont need to hear from people that had them all previously and have them all again. I want to know how the grind is now and especially what your impressions are on the low tiers post hotfix .8.0.1 My assumption: - XP seems to be extremely low for CVs per match. This would mean that it would be a long and tedious grind. Since most of XP is based off damage dealt coupled with the fact that WG is doing everything possible to take alpha away from planes post rework (which I disagree with) I would think having high XP games is going to get more difficult...even more so after hotfix. Thoughts on all that? I really dont want to quit this game and the British CV line looks interesting so if you can't beat them join them right?!? In regard to the hotfix I personally think they went too far. It was correct to make AA more continous DOT and less flak bursts but now they need to buff plane HP or give speed/aim time a buff to balance that out to give planes less time over target or more "armor" to absorb the damage. Certainly a step in the right direction overall though and a lot of the hotfix implementation was right on the money.
