  1. So here is a story which people probably would love and of find interresting.(Didn't write it myself) During the war, many, often somewhat romanticized, newspaper articles were written about courage under fire. An especially interesting subject for reporters were the exploits of the navies in exile, and the Royal Netherlands Navy was no exception. The following article is from the newspaper "Voice of the Netherlands", dated August 7, 1943. The gunboats, or better sloops, in question are the Flores and Soemba, which became known in the Royal Navy as the "Terrible Twins". A special correspondent in the Mediterranean emphases the part which ships of the Dutch Navy are playing in the operations off Sicily. The First official announcement of their presence was contained in General Eisenhower's communiqué of July 10th. Then came the story of the Dutch gunboat, which silenced shore batteries during the landings. As the Allies disembarked in a small bay they found that certain shore guns had managed to get the range of the beach and were causing considerable trouble. The Dutch gunboat closed in to less than a mile off shore and put the batteries out of action with a few well-placed broadsides. The short official information is amplified by the special correspondent who cables: "Squat, camouflaged fighting ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy are playing a considerable part in the operations off Sicily. Two gunboats in particular have been bombarding enemy gun positions and troop concentrations on the eastern beaches, non-stop day and night, since the start of the invasion. "Like terriers chasing rats, they refuse to leave them alone. They pour in shells so fiercely and with such grim determination that it is no exaggeration to say that they steam up and down the coast leaving a long snaking trail of empty, cordite-blackened shell cases floating astern. They show complete disregard for personal danger and never miss an opportunity to bombard at close range." The two gunboats' exploits made one British gunnery officer say: "It is fantastic how these little ships sail in to attack with the Netherlands Ensign flying cockily at the masthead. Their gunnery officer, dressed in khaki, unconcernedly stands on the bridge, calmly surveying the coastline. "In the early stages of the campaign the Dutch gunboats took on eight strong Axis batteries on the top of a hill. The boats dashed in, and in an incredibly short while secured direct hits on three of the shore batteries. They killed the gun crews, and when our forward troops reached the position they found the five other batteries abandoned." At one stage of the land battle for the Catania plain the Germans, harassed and confused by the Navy' s persistent sea bombardment, brought up an enormous gun and started a terrific barrage, throwing up gigantic columns of water. The Dutch gunboats were completely outranged, but they overcame that by rushing in, firing salvos all the time, and then twisting and turning out again, only to repeat the manoeuvre. Another British officer said: "These Dutchmen have the right fighting spirit. Nothing will stop them, and they won't cease firing. The only rest they had during the nights of unceasing bombardments was when they ran out of ammunition, and then they returned, reshelled and refuelled, and were off again. They will take on anything. Last Friday, when we knew them to be some distance away, they came rushing in at the sound of firing and went full speed ahead into the fray. Their shells roared overhead, straddling us. We could not make out where the firing came from until someone said 'It 's those damned Dutchmen again; you can't keep them out of anything!' And he was right. [The End]
  2. So, I'm not sure what compelled me to, but today I decided to look up the real USS Midway to see if it was even possible for them to somehow make a "free premium" version of her like they did for Missouri/Musashi. so first I went to Wikipedia to see when she got her angled flight deck (original idea was "launch and recover at the same time, fewer AA guns are her flaw), but then I discovered something the real midway had WAY more AA guns than what we get in the game. in fact, no Midway-class carrier has that loadout. Midway has too many guns, Coral Sea (CV-43) has too few (only 14 x 5" guns), and the closest is CV-42, USS Franklin D. Roosevelt which has 21 × 4 – 40 mm Bofors /60 caliber guns. our Midway has a jumble of guns that equal the same 21 Bofors, but not all of them are the quads. to make sure Wikipedia didn't have the wrong numbers, I searched the internet for about 30 minutes, finding several sits with war stories and finally two with actual info, one being from the United States Navy. here's what her owners say her stats were... displacement: 45,000 tonslength: 968 feetbeam: 113 feetdraft: 35 feetspeed: 33 knots complement: 4,104 crewarmament: 18 5-inch guns, 84 40mm guns, 68 20mm gunsclass: Midway another site I found even listed the years for USS Midway's armaments over her life. 1945: 18 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns, 84 40mm guns and 28 20mm guns 1950: 14 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns and 40 3-inch (7,6 cm) 50 caliber guns 1957: 10 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns and 22 3-inch (7,6 cm) 50 caliber guns 1961: 10 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns 1963: 4 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns 1970: 3 5-inch (12,7 cm) 54 caliber guns 1985: 2 Mk-25 launchers for Sea Sparrow, 2 Phalanx CIWS Mk-15 so... I if WG sees this, I think they needa tweak the Midway herself (not the planes, I didn't look into those today. lol)... even if they rename her to be CV-42, then it'd still require some tweaking since the AA isn't in line with what either carrier had when they were commissioned. the only unfortunate thing is I can not figure out what configuration those 84 x 40mm guns are in. is that each gun mounted separately? the number of barrels in separate mounts? or 84 batteries with "X" number of 40mms? even if I'm assuming it's the number of total barrels, regardless of configuration, our in-game Midway is missing about 20 of them, cause her total is 62. so where's the other 12 40mms and where's our 28~68 20mms? (I've no idea what happened to 40 of the 20s Wikipedia and the USN say 68, the 3rd site only said she had 28x20mm guns.) included below are links to the three pages I found that had useful information. well, to anyone that reads this, thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you have a good day. ^^ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Midway_(CV-41) http://www.navy.mil/navydata/ships/carriers/histories/cv41-midway/cv41-midway.html https://www.navysite.de/cvn/cv41.htm
  3. A quick talk about cruisers of WW2

Well I'm just here to categorize second world war cruiser (correct me if I'm wrong) just a reminder, this is all up to debate and I hope everyone respects everyone's opinion. Also, I'm not a historian or extremely knowledgeable about everything that happened during WW2, but I try my best. The most powerful heavy cruisers (In no particular order) 1. Admiral Hipper class cruisers 2. Alaska class cruisers 3. Takao Class cruisers 4. Baltimore class cruiser 5. Zara Class 6. Deutschland-class cruiser Honourable mentions 1. Des Moines class cruiser (In my mind it's more of a post-war cruiser) The most powerful Light Cruisers (again no particular order) 1. Cleveland class cruiser 2. Mogami class cruisers 3. Brooklyn class cruiser 4. Nurnberg class cruisers 5. La Galissonniere 6. Abruzzi Class cruisers Honourable mentions 1 Atlanta class cruisers 2. Swiftsure class cruisers The most battle-hardened cruisers (In no order, 1 ship per nation) 1. USS San Diego 2. KMS Nurnberg 3. IJN Mogami 4. Alberico da Barbiano 5. HMS Belfast 6. Émile Bertin Best looking cruiser (again no particular order, in my own opinion) 1. Baltimore class cruiser 2. KMS Graf Spee 3. IJN Atago 4. Duca D'Aosta Worst cruisers of WW2 1. Trento-class cruiser 2. County class cruisers 3. Kirov class cruisers (and most other Soviet heavy cruisers) 4. Katori class cruisers (they might have been originally training ships, but they fought so it counts)
  4. "Much Better Than Any Anime Mod Out There, Satisfaction Guaranteed Or Your Internets Back" By WhiskeyWolf WHAT'S THIS MOD ABOUT? Basically, this modification for World of Warships aims to convert as much as possible the UI and text descriptions of the game, in order to make WoWs photorealistic (I've used real photos in high resolution of the WW2 conflict) and historically correct. Without forget to mention the documentary like flavour I've given to the art style of WoWs. FOR WHAT KIND OF PLAYER IS THIS MOD FOR? This mod aims to compel whoever loves the naval history behind World of Warships. Poeple that would love to see realistic pictures of their favorite warships implemented in the game client. People with much knowledge regarding the naval battles exploded inside the atlantic, mediterranean and pacific theatres. "If this was any more realistic you would have Japanese Kamikaze flying out of your monitor." By WhiskeyWolf WHO IS WORKING ON THIS PROJECT? Tsukotaku (Ex. Founder of Team 20.3cm and Rising Sun), one of the very first modders during the Alpha of the game, also known in the global WoWs community for his great Kantai Collection modifications. Examples of his past works: WHO IS ADVISING THIS PROJECT? Chamorro, probably one of the most knowledgeable persons and contributors that Tsukotaku ever met, especially in this community. Wihtout his help and information, this project wouldn't be able to take off. WHAT'S THE STATUS OF THIS MOD? I've covered only 5% of the total GUI and 3% of the text descriptions as per 27/11/17, with much more to come during the following weeks! The results are incredible already: WHERE IS THE DOWNLOAD? Since the mod is in very early stage of delevopement the download is NOT AVAILABLE yet. I need first to rebalance the contrast of certain in-battles elements to make it actually playable by everyone in grayscale tones. Once this is done, I'll submit everything to WG in order to publish a working version with the lastest build of the game. This topic is just a showcase of the work that me and Chamorro are doing, to let know the community that such project is happening. HOW CAN YOU HELP US? Simple! By providing us with feedbacks and comments! What's better than having you, the users (The final target of this mod), express your thoughts about this "Photorealistic WW2 Total UI Conversion"? "MAN UP!" By WhiskeyWolf
  5. [ALL] US Blast Bag Mod

This is possibly the smallest detail in the game yet it has always annoyed me. The color of blast bags or "bloomers" on guns on ships of the US Navy. Blast bags, for anyone who doesn't know, are the little pieces of fabric, usually rubber or canvas, fixed around where the gun meets the turret, they keep dirt and water out of the turret. The color of the US bags has always sorta annoyed me. Some aren't dark enough or even the wrong color completely, and yes I am aware of how picky this sounds. I wanted to try my hand at modding as I have never even come close to creating my own so this is an experiment. I'm even inexperienced in photo editing all together so this is just an experiment. I have created this mod that changes and darkens the color of blast bags of most US ships including carriers, battleships, destroyers, and cruisers. It was mostly for myself as a test of my very limited skill but I'll put it here if anyone else wants to use it. The ships it changes are as follows: North Carolina, Alabama, and Massachusetts, Iowa, Missouri, and Montana. Cleveland, New Orleans, Baltimore, Des Moines, Salem Benson, Sims, Lo Yang, Fletcher, Black, Kidd, Gearing. Any destroyer using the 5 inch 38 caliber mounts pretty much. This includes some the high tier Pan-Asian destroyers like Hsien Yang, Chung Mu, and Yue Yang. Since it changes the texture of the 5 inch secondary dual purpose mounts as well, this applies to most US ships mentioned above as well as any carrier using the 5 inch dual purpose mounts, this also includes Atlanta. Installation is the usual. Unzip the mod and drop the "content" folder right into the current version res_mods folder. Like I said this is my first mod and just an experiment so I apologize if this post is clumsy and/or hard to understand. Give me your criticisms and questions please. http://www.mediafire.com/file/n1jc1zt4dmi1ypp/BlastBagsMod.rar Pictures:
  6. I made some small fixes for the campaign reward camo for the Bismarck in order to make her more historical. Just the intact one, not the zombie. This mod will affect only the reward camo and nothing else. This skin should represent Bismarck during her final moments: Changes: lighter overall shade grey overpaint in place of swastikas (iron crosses) corrected paint job on main turrets visible remnants of baltic stripes dark grey paint for main and secondary gun barrels added mysterious smudge[1] darker paint of bow and stern removed shape of the false bow wave adjusted Reference images: 1 2 3 4 Download link: https://ulozto.net/!X6PKLjLMRdRd/huntforbismarck-skinfixc-rar Installation: unrar put "content" folder in "res_mod/0.7.1.1" in the game directory (C:/Games/World_of_Warships) Note: Because this mod doesnt handle with any xml file, it is compatible with every upcoming update. So the only thing you have to do is to take it from the old folder and place it into the new one. Enjoy!
  7. Nagato lives on!

Well looks like not all of the ship is gone. Of course it's not her beautiful floating self but, her flag was returned to Japan! https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20171007_14/
  8. Hello, thanks for stopping by. I'll be posting several historical Japanese ship textures in this thread. If you have a request for a specific ship of a class, send me a message or leave a comment below and I'll get to work as soon as I am able to. Note: These textures will not be visible if you have a camouflage mounted. A camouflage remover is recommended to hide the camo's appearance. Yamakaze (Replaces Tier II Destroyer Umikaze) Chikuma (Tier II Cruiser) Katori (Tier III Cruiser) Furutaka (Tier V Cruiser) Hatsuyuki (Replaces Tier VI Destroyer Shinonome) Fubuki (Replaces Tier VI Destroyer Shinonome) Akizuki (Tier VIII Destroyer) Hatsuzuki (Replaces Tier VIII Destroyer Akizuki) Teruzuki (Replaces Tier VIII Destroyer Akizuki) Takao (Replaces Tier VIII Cruiser Atago) More to come soon! 9. So, I've always preferred the CBT textures for American ships - camouflage Measure 22, aka the blue hull. By 1945, pretty much every ship in the Pacific either wore Measure 22 or Measure 21. In lieu of being able to find any sort of references on what Victories actually wore, I retextured the Red Oak Victory in MS22. Two variations done - one, in the Aqua blue Wargaming used for CBT, and the other in 5-N Navy blue, which is what ships actually used in WWII. Aqua: Preview here. Download here. 5-N Navy: Preview here. Download here. The rest of the Aqua MS-22 textures can be found here. Thanks, Red_Raven_168! Clean textures for many ships, carefully cleaned by DD_381, can be found here, in both aqua and navy blue. Matching textures for the New Mexico, retexturing it to look like the USS Idaho in MS22 Navy Blue, was expertly recreated by Rotten_Scotty. They can be found here.
  10. Dear Wargaming I would like to suggest Nation teamed battles in random battles for historical event anniversaries. For example, during the "Battle of Midway" anniversary, and other historical naval anniversaries, there should be a chance of a random battle where one team consists of ships from only one nation (in this case USA) against ships of another nation (Japan) within same/close-by tiers of ships. This would make for interesting gameplay and we could all learn from the results of the battle and gain insight into historical battles that took place.
  11. so, i've recently completed that hie challenge, i think that the ship is good, it has a decent speed and a wonderful range, but i didn't enjoy playing with a pink battleship, i managed to overwrite the arpeggio voice files with the german voice files because grandfather in the kriegsmarine, now i just need to place the overwrite the arpeggio skin with the original Kongo skin, can you guys tell me how to find the vanilla skins folder or name a mod skin to use in the hiei?
  12. Heyo, since I have recently started to sit down to make small edits to textures, I have now decided to make some complete skins myself. I have very little experience in modding textures, so any advice, criticism, suggestion, etc is always welcome! The skins are mostly rust free, because I'm too noob to make convincing looking weathering effects. Aside from that, they will mostly be designed to be compatible with Tanz' textures. I strongly suggest having a look at Tanz' thread (and the other ones in the spoiler)! 13. Thank you Wargaming!

I just wanted to shout out to the Wargaming Developers who work on the ship detailing... Since I only live a few hours drive from the USS North Carolina, and visit a few times a year, it has rapidly become one of my favorite ships in the game. So, I was pretty excited when WG announced the NoCal would be getting a permanent camo.. And sure enough, it's the Measure 32 pattern from 1944 that she wears today! Thank you Wargaming, Thank you. It's the little details in this game that make me happy.. 1944 Present Day (taken in Feb 2016) WOWS in Port
  14. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Ever since I got the permanent camouflages for Hatsuharu, Fubuki, and Mogami, I thought Atago's camo stood out due to its colour scheme. This simple mod just changes Atago's camo to match the same green and white colours as the rest of the Japanese camos. This mod also changes New York's permanent camouflage (The one that can be purchased for 1000 doubloons) into Texas' camouflage and alters Texas' look to have MS 21 camo scheme (The solid dark blue one). I plan on adding more here soon but for now, here are the new camos. Updated for 5.15 Note: This mod affects the camouflages only. The ship textures you use will remain the same and will be visible under the camos. The rust free ship textures used under the camouflage is made by Tanz. Check out his skins here. Download To install, just extract the contents of the .zip file into your res_mods folder.
  15. Detailed blueprints for the Cleveland Class USS Miami and the New Orleans class USS Astoria. Found them on an old hard drive I haven't used in years, and really don't know from where I downloaded them. Here's a link to a sample image, download the complete sets, each as their own PDF. *EDIT* I also found the Langley, the Ranger, and the Battleship New Jersey. 16. Hello all, A while ago, I downloaded this mod to replace the ARP ships with their historical Sins. This change worked up until 0.5.5. The ARP Myoko still looks fine, but the Kongo looks a lot less... healthy. The deck texture is exactly the same as the 1942 Kongo, but it looks like this. From the comments in the linked mod, I'm guessing the problem is the .mfm files which were adversely affected by the new file structure. The author seems to think there is nothing that can be done, but if that's the case why is Myoko still fine? Is there something different about the Kongos? Has anyone had any success with skinning the ARP Kongo on 0.5.5+? Thanks in advance for any help. Also if I get a working solution, I'd gladly put up my updated Historical ARP ships mod for download.
  17. Re: WOWS Beta, Modules Screen: I remember there being historical tooltips on each of the upgraded hulls, planes and parts. I can't find a mod that fills this clerical request, but I really enjoy this game so I'm happy to do some legwork. I've attached a couple files to explain where this data used to be in the beta, I wonder why it was removed. So, one pic I included has a Modules screen > Nagato ( C ) Hull Tooltip, which is missing historical information that used to be there The next pic shows some historical info, but only for the Amagi itself. Does anyone know how I can go about re-embedding this data into these tooltips? I have no problem doing the wiki research for the actual historical data.
  18. Game - WWII Revival - Discussion

Okay guys, due to a post by a certain member I will not mention and the seemingly high interest, I will be reviving the most recently abandoned WWII thread in all it's glory in tabletop tactical format Setting is the world from that thread up to turn 11's moderation. 19. Era Flags

As to the flags on what ever nation's ship you would be playing at the moment, will it be put into the game that for WW1 ships you can take a WW1 flag instead of WW2 era flags? Just wondering.

  21. The Fubuki's top speed is wrong.

According to muliple sources and some research on the Fubuki, her top speed is wrong. It's slated as 35.8kts maximum on the World of Warships wiki (and in the game), yet I've read it as 38kts everywhere else. https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Fubuki-class_destroyer http://ww2db.com/ship_spec.php?ship_id=513 http://www.combinedfleet.com/ships/fubuki Correct the Fubuki's top speed, without the boost or flags, to the real-world & accurate 38kts.

  24. TotenKampf's Custom and Historical Ensigns and Flags Requests and feedback welcomed. (Original thread post http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/29456-historical-and-custom-ensigns/ ) The aim of these small mods is to provide sharper colours used for the Ensigns flown by the selective nations as well as providing the historically correct ensign flown. Due to the way the file operates. The Russian/Soviet Navies now changes Ensign approprately, however the Hochseeflotte and Kriegsmarine respectively do not. Your choice in download is more for a preference for the German Ensign to be that of der Kaiser, or der Furher. Current plan is to add a modern Ensign pack to replace all Ensigns with the correct current one flown by these nations; as well as novelty flags for holiday's.
