Because of this, we wanted to come up with a unique art contest just to see the cool designs that our players can come up with. Since we have done ship camouflages in the past, we decided on something a bit different: torpedoes. Below you will see templates for various torpedoes. Feel free to pick one (or two, or three, or all of them!) and show us your creativity! Challenge: Reply to this thread with your best self-made design of a torpedo. The templates for various torpedoes are provided below. Please note: The designs will NOT be added to the game. This is purely an art contest. 14. “Operation Source” was a series of attacks to neutralize the heavy German warships – Tirpitz, Scharnhorst, and Lützow – based in northern Norway, using X-class midget submarines. The attacks took place in September 1943 at Kaafjord and succeeded in keeping Tirpitz out of action for at least six months. The concept for the attack was developed by Commander Cromwell-Varley, with the support of Max Horton, Flag Officer Submarines, and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Intelligence contributing to the attack on Tirpitz was collected and sent to the Royal Navy by the Norwegian resistance, especially brothers Torbjørn Johansen and Einar Johansen. Tirpitz was heavily damaged. While not in danger of sinking, she took on over 1,400 tons of water and suffered significant mechanical damage. The first torpedo exploded abreast of turret Caesar, and the second detonated 148 to 180 ft off the port bow. A fuel oil tank was ruptured, shell plating was torn, a large indentation was made in the bottom of the ship, and bulkheads in the double bottom buckled. Some 1,430 tons of water flooded the ship in fuel tanks and void spaces in the double bottom of the port side, which caused a list of one-two degrees, which was balanced by counter-flooding on the starboard side. The flooding damaged all of the turbo-generators in generator room No. 2, and all apart from one generator in generator room No. 1 were disabled by broken steam lines or severed power cables. Turret Dora was thrown from its bearings and could not be rotated; this was particularly significant, as there were no heavy-lift cranes in Norway powerful enough to lift the turret and place it back on its bearings. The ship's two Arado Ar 196 floatplanes were thrown by the explosive concussion and completely destroyed. Repairs were conducted by the repair ship Neumark; historians William Garzke and Robert Dulin remarked that the successful repair effort was "one of the most notable feats of naval engineering during the Second World War. Repairs lasted until 2 April 1944; full-speed trials were scheduled for the following day in Altafjord. On 12 November 1944, the ship was destroyed by Avro Lancaster bombers, however. Show a screenshot of a Bismarck, Tirpitz, Tirpitz B, Scharnhorst or Scharhorst B in Random/Coop battle dodging torpedoes. Please submit your screenshots from battles between Sept 21st 14:00 UTC (9AM Central) and Sept 28th 13:00 UTC (8am Central). MAKE SURE YOUR SCREENSHOT IS DURING THE TIME PERIOD LISTED. So like, I successfully dodged 1 of the 3, those odds aren't bad right? Grand Prize: 1 randomly selected winners will receive: Tier VIII Tirpitz Runner Up: 3 randomly selected winners will receive: 7 Days Warships Premium Time Participation 5x European Camo Some of you figured out how to get screenshots of the required ships without owning them GG to you! Also, you are entering for a chance to win a Tier VIII premium, of course I am going to make it a bit more difficult. Feel free to advertise these contests to your friends! The more people that participate the more stuff I intend to start giving away! If you notice, I have increased the rewards I have been giving away, so help ME, help YOU. That is all. Mahalo, -Hapa
  15. Blücher was the second of five Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruisers of the Kriegsmarine, built-in repudiation of the Treaty of Versailles. Named for Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, the Prussian victor of the Battle of Waterloo, the ship was laid down in August 1936 and launched in June 1937. She was completed in September 1939, shortly after the outbreak of World War II. After completing a series of sea trials and training exercises, the ship was pronounced ready for service with the fleet on 5 April 1940. She was armed with a main battery of eight 203 mm (8.0 in) guns and, although nominally under the 10,000-long-ton (10,000 t) limit set by the Anglo-German Naval Agreement, actually displaced over 16,000 long tons (16,000 t). Immediately upon entering service, Blücher was assigned to the task force that supported the invasion of Norway in April 1940. Blücher served as the flagship of Konteradmiral (Rear Admiral) Oskar Kummetz, the commander of Group 5. The ship led the flotilla of warships into the Oslofjord on the night of 8 April, to seize Oslo, the capital of Norway. Two old 280 mm (11 in) coastal guns in the Oscarsborg Fortress engaged the ship at a very close range, scoring two hits, as did several smaller guns in other batteries. Two torpedoes fired by land-based torpedo batteries struck the ship, causing serious damage. A major fire broke out aboard Blücher, which could not be contained. The fire spread to one of her anti-aircraft gun magazines, causing a large explosion, and then spread further to the ship's fuel bunkers. Blücher then capsized and sank with major loss of life. The wreck lies at the bottom of Oslofjord, and in 2016 was designated as a war memorial to protect it from looters. Several artifacts have been raised from the wreck, including one of her Arado 196 floatplanes, which was recovered during an operation to pump out leaking fuel oil from the ship in 1994. 23. Standby for words from the Chief. The Battle of Saipan was a battle of the Pacific campaign of World War II, fought on the island of Saipan in the Mariana Islands from 15 June to 9 July 1944. The Allied invasion fleet embarking the expeditionary forces left Pearl Harbor on 5 June 1944, the day before Operation Overlord in Europe was launched. The U.S. 2nd Marine Division, 4th Marine Division, and the Army's 27th Infantry Division, commanded by Lieutenant General Holland Smith, defeated the 43rd Infantry Division of the Imperial Japanese Army, commanded by Lieutenant General Yoshitsugu Saito. The loss of Saipan, with the deaths of at least 29,000 troops and heavy civilian casualties, precipitated the resignation of Prime Minister of Japan Hideki Tōjō and left the Japanese archipelago within the range of United States Army Air Forces B-29 bombers.
