Lots of pew pew pew while the ship was just a hair's breadth away from total destruction! That 2nd wave of cruisers really know how to focus fire. Link: https://youtu.be/u-5KPbf5Ntk

Hey Guys, I'm a relatively new DD player and i like being a torpedo boat, so naturally i tried IJN, im up to the Isokaze, and its great, I love it. I really like the line but i hear from every single person that the IJN dds are shiz after the nerfs to torp stealth and the guns, and tell me that ijn dds in general are crap, They say that shima is worst T10 dd in the game, and now i dont know if i really want to play through the IJN line anymore. I honestly dont care about guns, (i don't know how to use them without being nuked ;) because i dont use them that often, so what would you guys say?. Also how effective is the akizuki line at knife fighting and how is the manuevrability and concealment on them??

WG rolls out the Fen Yang. It's more or less an Akizuki clone having similar ship-handling and AA. It is distinguished from the 'Zukis by carrying deep-water torps, only good against BB and CV, and hydro plus defensive AA. I'd say this is balanced. It has the same 100mm cannon as well. But not the same, really. Akizuki pens 30mm of armor (with 5% chance of fire.) Fen Yang pens 17mm (with 8% chance of fire.) Asashio has 19mm of fore, aft, and side plating. Charging or running from Fen Yang in Asashio is pretty safe, IMHO, unless the chaser can always hit the superstructure. Sure you can spec for IFHE (and probably should) to get 21mm of pen (with 4% chance of fire). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WG, could a mistake have been inadvertently made here? 1. The IJN 100's have a buffed pen to make them competitive. Was it a mistake to not give this to Fen Yang? OR 2. Fen Yang has guns that fit the penetration mechanic. Was it a mistake to buff all the other IJN 100's? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will happily remain a Fen Yang-less DD main until one or the other mistake is resolved.

A Proposed Adjustment for Fen Yang
FairWindsFollowingSeas posted a topic in Player Feature and Gameplay Suggestions
I understand Fen Yang's tweaks from her sister IJN destroyer Akizuki in regards to gunnery performance. However, Fen Yang's torpedoes currently fill a niche role that ventures into Asashio's territory. For those who don't know what I am referring to, Fen Yang currently has a deepwater variant of Akizuki's upgraded torpedoes, the Type93 mod. 2's, that have longer range (12km instead of 10km), slightly longer reload, and lowered detectability (0.8km instead of 1.7km); but the inability to damage destroyers & cruisers. Fen Yang's torpedoes can only hit battleships and aircraft carriers, similar to Asashio. Fen Yang's torpedoes are in direct conflict with the other Pan-Asian deepwater torps, which possess the ability to hit cruisers. I have a proposed change regarding Fen Yang's torpedoes. Give Fen Yang a deepwater variant of the stock Akizuki torpedoes, the Type92 mod. 1, with the ability to hit cruisers as well as battleships & aircraft carriers. The torpedo alpha would be reduced from the current 20,967 damage down to 17,233, the speed & reload would be reduced slightly, and the range reduced to 10km. Considering that Fen Yang only has one quad torpedo launcher, I don't think this change in torpedo armament would make Fen Yang overpowered in any way. The torpedo stats would be a slight nerf, however the ability for Fen Yang's torpedoes to damage cruisers would bring this destroyer back in line with the various other Pan-Asian destroyer torpedoes, while allowing Asashio to do what she does best: hunting battleships & CVs. -
I'm getting close to unlocking the Akizuki. I am pretty sure it needs IFHE. Is there any reason to get Demolition Expert, since it's not that great anymore? Does the Akizuki rely on fires for damage? Or would I be better off with the faster firing skill?

I know I made some significant errors. I am, after all, a BB main, cruiser secondary, DD tertiary player. I took too much damage sinking the Hatsuharu and the Aoba at nearly full health had me dead to rights, his next salvo probably would have sunk me when the Lenin pulled my bacon out of the fire. That said, I was able to make some correct decisions and in the end was a crucial element in pulling out the win. This is not the best DD match I have had, that goes to a Cossack battle lost to the aether, but this was the best one I've had in a while. Critiques are welcome. I do want to get better. 20210106_195854_PJSD108-Akizuki_50_Gold_harbor.wowsreplay

Debate: which is the best non-premium T8 DD?
commodore_torakula posted a topic in General Game Discussion
....and i'd like to apologize for the TLDR of this post in advance, people....I would've written a shorter introduction, but I didn't have time.... ....In the current meta and with ranked kicking off it's 14th season....Let's try to come to a consensus on this.... ....I'll give you my full take on my experience of these ships: ....With the DWT-using PA line, I deferred to my instincts as a DD/BB main who plays DDs for the adrenaline and thought--nope, I'm not going down that tech tree...so: no idea....in fact the feel of being targeted by a PA with DWTs is alien to me--sort of like being the wingman in the old "Thatch Weave" in the days of the Hellcats and Wildcats....tough call there. ....The Kagero is my most played ship....Her stealth is excellent, her 'pedoes are long range dump-trucks of battlewagon annihilating little bastids....Her drawbacks are, like most of the IJN DDs, a slow reload on the arty and that she can only area-denial in the caps so much....I usually load the TRB, which throws off some players because they're not necessarily aware I can't provide smoke for the big dogs. ....With the Akizuki, again, I prefer a stealth-torp feel and the "bravery of being out of range" as a DD so I've only test-conned the Akis on the PTS....I don't feel like I'm ready to buy one or fxp one on that fork of the IJN DD line....I will say, though, during the 13th season of ranked using a Z-46/Kagero platoon of course the Akis and the T9 Kitakazes and T10 Harugumos were real trouble for me to deal with. ....As the French DD line has debuted recently, I have to say I didn't like the lack of smoke in the first few DDs....I took a Jaguar into a random with a pal on the New Dawn map and got dusted off immediately....The French DDs do not look like something I'll be good with until I practice in coop with them more....so much for fans of the Le Fantasque. ....As for the KM, I have the aforementioned Z-46 but have not played her very much apart from my foray into the 13th season....so with respect to the Z-23, again--I'd have to call "limited data sample" on that one....My go-to KM DD is the T-22 and I have a nice T-61 that's really a Gaeda with more stealth and quicker loading fish, but not the 150mm upgrade that the Gaeda has as an option for the MB. ....as for the VMF of the USSR/Russian DDs, I have never liked the feel of being a sort of cap-bully with arty that's meant to slice other DDs to pieces up front....I have experience of the Kiev and the Ognevoi in randoms that makes me conclude that with the heal buff they got some months back, I'd say I'd prefer the Kiev now for random/ranked, but pre-heal buff the Ognevoi was also good....2 things: the ballistics and the reloads on those two are like [edited] light sabers being tossed and everyone is telekinetic....You can barely miss when you're in tight going smash-mouth to another DD....the Ognevoi has that other weird wrinkle in that you can have a different torpedo suite with one hull or the other....So my vote there for what I'd want in the 14th season is Kiev. ....The Benson is, for me, a good platoon with the Kagero--you've got good smoke and a 10-torp spread to work with, so that really all you have to compensate for is the weird trajectories on those 127mm rifles that can be hard to walk-in at distance....She's near the top of my list among all these boats. ....Lastly, the Lightning is, in a way, my brand new toy....I finally fxp'd past the Jervis because I never like that one's specs....I did that today and took the Lighting back into coop--having barely tested her on the last time the PTS was up....so stay tuned to my full take on that puppy. ....So?....the verdict?....I *would've taken a Kiev into ranked in the next few days and see what else I might want to riff on herein. *[desmo spotted this error on my part] ....Your thoughts? -
I really love playing Kitakaze or any of her 2 sisters (Akizuki and Harugumo with Yamamoto captain. Reason is that you will often get eigher First blood or Kraken with them which with Yama turns them inte Monsters.

I recently decided to make my Harekaze captain specialize as an Akizuki captain so that I can run either on a whim. The old question of to IFHE or not to IFHE came back to me. Currently I'm running no IFHE for my Harekaze build (SE, DE, BFT instead), and as I see it now, it works very well. On the other hand, I used to have an IFHE captain (now on my Harugumo) on the Aki. 32mm pen was great, obviously, but until I got DE (instead of SE) on the Aki, I did not get a lot of fires. So now I'm wondering if SE, DE, BFT, AR, PM is worth more than DE, BFT, IFHE, AR. I feel like the latter build will have less benefit than the former on a Harekaze, but it's something I know works well in Akizuki. Conversely, the first build works well on Harekaze, but I have no experience with it on Akizuki. Decisions... Has anyone ran Akizuki without IHFE with good success? Do people use SE on Aki?

just got my hands on the akizuki i am excited to play my first game in it (and likely suck in it at first). I just have a small question. what are some good builds and upgrades for this ship?

How do you plan to handle the new DD additions to the IJN tech tree?
commodore_torakula posted a topic in Destroyers
With the upcoming addition to the tech tree of the T9 Kitakaze and the T10 Harugumo, I'd like to poll and troll for a bit and ask the forumites what they plan to do to exploit how these ships might affect the meta and balance of T8-10 battles....? -
Curious what my fellow forum dwellers think. My uncensored opinion:

Akizuki Pitch Deep Water Torpedoes Researchable.
Niknack9230 posted a topic in General Game Discussion
Well now, we all know that with the on coming of Kitekaze and Harugmo our Akizukis are no longer in elite status. At the moment Akizuki has the ability of two different torpedo launchers. First the Type 90 mod 1. Reload time 101 seconds damage 17233 speed 62 knots. Basically Akizuki's stock torpedoes. Now with the upgraded torpedoes via research, the Type 93 mod 2. Reload time 112 seconds Maximium damage 20967 speed of 67 knots and a range of 10 kilometers. These are great. Even though it's only 1 set of 4 tubes. Why am I bringing this up? Well I would like to throw this pitch. Asasho (or how ever you spell that). She has the Type 93 mod 2 but with this spec deep water torpedoes. Now if Wargaming ever did this highly unlikely but they could. They could actually add in to the Akizuki research modules for torpedoes and add the charlie torpedo tubes. They could do the Type 3 mod 2 deep waters. How ever their range would or could be limited to 10 Kilometers. Still with a very low detectability range. It would probably give the Akizuki a different style of play if players decide to go this route and research and upgrade to that Type 93 Mod 2 DW if it would ever get added to Akizuki. They already exist in game why not increase their population.
