Shooting members of your team is an awful thing to do. Even by accident, it is wrong. There should IMMEDIATE negative consequences for the player's actions. It should be obvious that he who pulled the trigger is at fault. Perhaps all the damage being applied immediately and in full to the ship of the player who did this. IF there is no damage for this behaviour, it will become the new norm, just an accepted point of play, and even if it does not hurt my ship, I will find such play appalling. Please note, appalling as in inspiring dismay and disgust. I will not merely be annoyed.
This can do nothing but make the game less enjoyable. This can do nothing but hinder newer players from developing situational awareness. This can reward sloppy play and will not help a new player get a feel of being a member of a team.
Please think this one though, as it will have unintended consequences.
In like note, the Japanese had a hard time completing the Yamato, Musashi, and Shinano. The infrastructure and industrial capacity were strained. This reduced the number and quality of the limited assets which actually were produced. So, please stop adding ships that were a waste of resources, even if the only resource spent was years of effort by the design team.
