If you're looking for a simulator I suggest a game called Jutland. I think it was released about a decade or so ago now. A little buggy, but it does the job.

Underrated comment of the century. One of the best pieces of advice anyone ever gave me playing this game was always put yourself into a position where you can escape from a bad situation. That, and never go bow-on in a cruiser, which I think falls under the same reasoning. I almost instantly became a better player following that advice.
