Why are the Sharks Winning?
Spectacular_Insanity replied to Snargfargle's topic in General Game Discussion
Maybe if they had made the other team Dolphins or Orcas or something actually cool I would have chosen it. But EAGLES in a NAVAL game? Uh.... yeah, I'm going with Sharks, thanks. -
Musashi's secondaries v Yamato secondaries?
Spectacular_Insanity replied to Martin31415's topic in Japanese Battleships
Even the Yamato which has better secondaries suffer from heavily dimishing returns on any kind of secondary or AA skill/module investment. It's just not worth it. Go survivability/main gun build instead. You will have much better results, even if it means having to be much more wary of CVs and lolibotes on your flank. -
Lol, I get it, but IMO it's close enough. You're probably going to be opening up with your main guns around 15-16km anyway for opening shots of a battle, regardless, and then there goes your detection. You really do want to be helping your DDs kill the enemy DDs, instead of staying dark for such a long time.

I dunno, whenever I get in my Yamato, the only ship in the game I fear is... another Yamato. Or a Musashi. Or a skilled T9+ CV player. If you angle right you can bounce nearly everything. The only major weakness are the cheeks, where if you slightly over-angle (and the 32mm bow is defeated) you can get citadel'd by the ships in the game with large-caliber guns, such as most T9 and T10 BBs. I honestly don't care about the raised citadel because if you go full broadside in a BB to anything that's not a DD (yes, that includes CAs and CLs), you DESERVE to get annihilated. And if that happens, it's because your positioning was terrible and that your game-sense needs work.

Captain Skills for Massachusetts and IFHE
Spectacular_Insanity replied to DJC_499's topic in American Battleships
IFHE is a waste of points, in the case. You really should be putting those points into either concealment or fire prevention, instead. I'm going fire prevention myself, since you are getting close to other people's secondaries when you're in brawling range. When I'm going to be as close as I usually am to the enemy, the concealment means nothing anyways. -
I don't have CE but I do have the Concealment module, currently. Detectability is 14.5km right now but once I get my captain to 14-pts it should be about 12.5, assuming my math is correct. Pretty darn good for a BB, generally speaking.
-
Massachusetts is fun, I have to say. But I also like brawling in my BBs. It's a risky affair considering that Mass has a slightly weaker armor profile compared to either the N. Carolina or Alabama, but the secondaries are good even without manual secondaries. In fact, I prefer not having manual secondaries since it means I don't usually have to click on enemies to make them fire, plus the secondaries can also fire off both sides at once. When you're at those <11.3km ranges, I barely even notice the difference in sigma. It feels just as punishing as the NC or Bama, and even more so against CLs and DDs. It is a good thing this ship has the fast cooldown on its heal. I honestly doubt it would be viable if it didn't. A secondary-built Tirpitz or Bismarck would burn you down way too fast.

Kitakaze, Haregumu.. theory craft and preplanning
Spectacular_Insanity replied to Warlord_Deadeye_Pete's topic in Japanese Destroyers
Honestly, to make the Kitakaze and Harugumo good, all the need to do is raise Kitakaze's speed to 35 kts and lower Harugumo's turning circle to around 760-780m (from current 830). Kitakaze being the same speed as Akizuki is as ridiculous as the Harugumo being out-turned by a freaking RN Conqueror. -
Which Destroyer would you say is the Most Complete
Spectacular_Insanity replied to Tank_Buster_'s topic in Japanese Destroyers
For IJN? Harekaze. Gives the best of both worlds, combining the torps and concealment of the Kagero with 3/4s the gun firepower of the Akizuki. It's mainly still a torp boat, but it can use its guns if it has to and do alright. It's an IJN DD that doesn't suck, in other words.
