Greetings, Commanders!

May the year ahead bring you good luck and fortune throughout your fierce battles in World of Warships.

To make the New Year holidays even more enjoyable and ensure only happiness from your hours spent in the game, the dev team would like to share important information with you on a number of issues that affect version 0.5.16.1. Fixing these issues is risky and requires thorough preparations that we're regretfully unable to make during this busy pre-New Year period. However, we've come up with a number of workarounds for you to avoid them.

1.      Many players are having issues in regards to lag and freezing that is making gameplay unpleasant. It is, therefore, very important to adjust the graphics settings in the game to make sure that the resources of your game station are allocated in the most efficient way. Below you'll find a number of hints on how to make things work better.

You'll need to play around with settings a bit to find a configuration that is optimal for you. We recommend playing one or two battles after every change you make so that you can clearly see how the changes affect the picture on the screen:

a.      Reduce Texture Quality;
b.      Set MSAA settings to 4x/2x;
c.      Disable Additional Reflections;
d.      Modify settings for the Effects Preset.

2.      One of the bugs in version 0.5.16 is associated with the music customization feature that allows players to play your own music in the game. If you have the "Listen to your own music" feature enabled in Audio Settings and new tracks have been added to the /res/userMusic/ folder, the game client may consume RAM resources in an uncontrollable manner when minimized (memory leaks). When the amount of RAM used reaches 4 GB, the game client crashes.

The leak takes place only when the game client is minimized (by pressing Alt+Tab or by selecting a window other than that of the game). If the game client window is restored, RAM is not released.

The issue manifests itself in all display modes of the game client (Windowed, Full-screen and Full-screen windowed).

Suggested temporary workarounds:

- Do not activate the Listen to your own music feature;
- Do not leave the game client minimized for extended periods of time when the above feature is enabled.

I know that this is not optimal, but I just ask that you please keep this in mind while playing World of Warships.

3.      Certain players using PCs running on Windows 10 Pro as their primary gaming platforms have experienced crashes of the game client shortly after login.

The issue can be resolved by using the ZIP archive attached to this news release. Please see file location here: https://www.dropbox....28.12.zip?dl=0

Usage guide:

- Unzip the archive (file + file folder) into the parent directory of the game (the one containing the WorldOfWarships.exe file);
- Launch the checkout_wows.exe file and select one of the two suggested options:

               1 – Replace the existing WorldOfWarships.exe file with a new one; or

               2 – Restore the previous WorldOfWarships.exe file if it has already been replaced.

- To be on the safe side, before replacement, make sure the original WorldOfWarships.exe is copied into a Backup folder and supplemented with an extra extension (*.original). It may be used to restore the file if need be.

We strongly recommend using this temporary solution only if the issue described in item 3 above is present.

Please share your feedback with us if you have experienced any of the issues described above or if the solutions offered were (un)helpful.

I haven't had these issues, but would like to thank your team for the continued work on the client. The game looks better than ever.

This is good news, thanks!  Is there going to be a patch releasing the new .exe or is this just a quick hack until there is a more permanent solution?

I don't really see how Wargaming can help you if you actually removed the game files from your computer. It's like asking tech support for help on your computer but you already returned the computer to the store...

Any workaround (or at least acknowledgement) for the lack of smoke effects from ship's smoke stacks or smoke consumables yet? Can't see mine nor other ships... and fiddling with the graphic settings did nothing.

interesting you would say this. Anyone who knows anything about computers knows its one of the prescribed solutions to any problem regarding software. The problem here was the launching of new update right in the middle of a world wide holiday and nobody at home to flip a switch if the whole thing blew up. To use your analogy....its more like going hunting with a group and realizing that the ones responsible for making sure the rifles& bows were in the trucks, left them at home.

It's a prescribed solution to uninstall and reinstall the software. Your previous statement suggests you just uninstalled and haven't finished reinstalling your game. If you have finished reinstalling, then you should not be having an issue getting started with the workarounds.

the wireless trick worked on my end. Curious that the client won't recognize a hard wired network card...but do recognize a wireless. food for thought.

I have issues with he game crashing. I can't get past the harbor screen before it crashes. I don't have the time it takes to check the settings & make any changes before it crashes. Support says my drivers are out of date. Updated drivers & I still have the problem. I'm lost. :(

Hello I have not been able to play the live sever for at least 4 days every time I try to login my game freezes or freezes during a game. I lowered the graphics started in safe mode and checked my computer and internet is fine. I understand now that you guys are getting a lot of support tickets and very few people are working now but I didn’t even get an email say that you guys are getting a lot of support tickets nor an email saying please go to the support forms to see if your problem can be fixed. I have not been able to play for at least 4 days now I checked my internet, my computer and did the steps listed on the support forms and reinstalled the game multiple times with no success. My support ticket is unanswered for 4 days now.

Happy New Year!  Really fun game :D Thanks for continually adding to it as well!

Thanks for getting this working.  Is there any chance the mission for the Graf Spee is being extended due to loss of time (or has it already?)?

If not, just glad to have the game working again :)  Thanks for fixing it!

By the way, this game's sound, graphics, everything are just awesome.  I can see it getting better all the time as new features, ships, modes, etc are added.  Most games seem to break over time (made easier-too easy- or loss of content, like WoW), but WoT and WoWS are just getting better all the time it seems!  I figure seeing positive feedback is good to have, especially seeing as many of you probably had to work long hours over the holidays to fix the issues.

Well, installed the new .exc file and STILL can't play. Also why did I have to search here to find a possible fix when I have submitted tickets about this? Why didn't tech support inform me?  Also, as I have not been able to play after the last update I will/have missed out on doing any of the missions. I think all of us who have not been able to play, though no fault of our own, that we be awarded all the missions as completed.

Not sure if this is related, but every the tab key, my system freezes for 10-20 seconds. about 50% of the time, I get booted when it unfreezes.

I am frustrated with the freezing up and becoming a target while my team is cursing me out.  I downloaded your patch and its not working.  Just for your information.

I've been noticing a slightly different effect - varying play time anywhere from a few matches to a few hours, in either the NA or EU client, and upon exiting the game, within a few seconds it causes Windows 7 to crash and shut off the computer.

The reason I try to stay mellow and not get wound up about what happens in game? It's called "perspective" - I spent 20 years on USN submarines in real life - and at my age, I've already been called most any name you can think of.:teethhappy:
