While I appreciate WG's efforts to try and introduce new players to the game in a more "friendly" environment, the restrictive matchmaking for tier 3 and 4 ships has absolutely wrecked tier 5 and 6 matchmaking.  I can't remember the last time I saw a game where I was top tier in either tier 5 or 6.  I concede that there is likely some confirmation bias here, but I see it in my tier 7 and 8 games as well, where I am getting a disproportionate number of games as top dog against tier 5 and 6 players.

I don't normally complain about matchmaking, but tiers 5 and 6 are the sweet spot for premium ships.  The vast majority of all premiums sold by WG are tier 5 and 6.  Constantly being at the bottom of the food chain doesn't make me want to play these premium ships and to be honest, I don't think I'll be getting anymore 5's or 6's until the matchmaking issue is fixed.

I think a much better solution is a series of minor buffs to the tier 3 and 4 ships that were having problems.  Or even a matchmaker based on games played where people with less than 350 total games (or whatever number) who queue up in a tier 1 through 4 ship only see similarly (in)experienced players.  I think that new players would benefit from experience based matchmaking much more than from restrictive tiering.  I see tons of very very good players trolling new players in low tier ships.  I've been known to do it on occasion (though very very infrequently), myself.

+1. I'd been toying with posting this topic for a few days now. You saved me the effort.

(Above stats not guaranteed accurate. I'm a supertester and test ships don't always register correctly)

I do agree. This is getting slightly out of hand. It's also going to be a major shock to players once they run smack into 5 and are constantly up against 7s.

So that's why my Krasney Krym has been doing so badly.

Those close order gun-battles with Atlanta, and double citadels from Nagato simply are not fun anymore.

...

People ask me how I like it...

It's a Premium Fail Division -- sticking a tier 4 cruiser at tier 5....  then stuffing it into every low tier battle.

So much has been lost, so much forgotten. So much pain, so much blood. And for what? I wonder. The past tempts us, the present confuses us, and the future frightens us. And our lives slip away, moment by moment, lost in that vast, terrible in-between. But there is still time to seize that one last, fragile moment. To choose something better, to make a difference.  -- Babylon 5

Don't know if it is conformation bias--but I am now at 32 straight games in my Murmansk, Gremy, Kamikaze, and Cleveland at bottom tier.....So a big +1 from me.

Makes sense. I agree that something should be done. Not sure what the solution should be but Pope has a good idea for starters.

Yeah, I gotta agree. I've basically stopped playing all my tier 5s and 6s because I get bottom tier nearly every single time.

While I am certainly benefiting in my VII grind I would wager down an Tier V and likely up at VIII things are not so rosy because the MM I've been getting has been consistently generous.

But... But... Then how am I supposed to smash seals with my Nikolai?

It's actually causing problems all the way up to T8. Pulling more 6s/7s down for top tier games, combined with the once again ludicrous repair costs shrinking the T10 population, even T8s are almost always bottom tier now.

I have gotten more "tier'd" down  than before the last few weeks, never really wanted to complain about it, but it happens more than I believe it should, as Pope and the rest of you up there seem to believe as well. Maybe it is a thing.... maybe  it will go away....but I will say that it makes for a more challenging game, even if the outcomes are not advantageous to the XP needed  to skill up my Captains ..... adaptation has its limits though....

I have to agree it changed the entire flavor of the game for tier 5.  and it has changed the dynamic across the board.

It's definitely hurt me. My two most played ships are my Farragut and Kamikaze-R, and those are where I make my credits for upgrades and such. Win rate on both have plummeted because I'm almost always bottom tier in both ships now. It's definitely had a major negative impact on the game for me.

I can see even keeping restrictive matchmaking for tier 3 as there's a huge difference between, for example, a Kolberg and a Konigsburg ability wise. But by tier 4, ships are starting to settle into being more competitive...tier 4 does not need restrictive matchmaking.

Tier 10: Khabarovsk, Kurfurst, Minotaur, Tier 9: Fletcher, Friedrich, Udaloi,, Z-46 Tier 8: North Carolina, Bismarck, Z-23, Edinburgh ARP Takao, Akizuki, Kiev, Ognevoi Tier 7: all ARP Myokos, Gneisenau, Leningrad, ShiratsuyuFiji, Tier 6: Budyonny, FarragutShinonome, Fuso, Leander, Bayern, Graf Spee  Tier 5: Kamikaze-R, all ARP Kongos Tier 4: Clemson, IshizuchiV170, Kaiser Tier 2: Tachibana, Mikasa

Agreed.  This change can be seen as a significant nerf to tier 5's and a slight nerf to tier 6's.  It's turned tier 7 into the sweet spot - able to be top tier or see a max of tier 10...

That moment when Kraken pops up and you're like.. Oh, sweet, didn't even notice!

Most of those kills were just securing, I really didn't do much damage that game (70k). Eating those friendly torps didn't help either (feels bad man...)
