I've got about 440 colour images to get through. It'll take me 44 days if I post 10 at a time.

The thing I really like is that many of these images were taken when the ships were not heading for battle. So you see the crew going about their daily lives oblivious to the fact that tragically many of them will die for a futile cause. In colour you can really relate to those ships and their crew in a way that you can't with black and white photos.

Exactly what i was thinking...

nice shots.  japanese carriers always look like they are uneven or broken somehow
A lot of the early ones were conversions like most navies at the time had...
Ryuho was a submarine tender
Ryujo was planned as a battlecruiser.. became very top heavy as seen in the pic.
Akagi was also a converted battlecruiser hull and in the 1929 pic, it is a triple deck carrier which was later converted to a standard single deck
The Hosho was the world's first purpose built aircraft carrier.

Nope. Ryujo was purpose-designed, but a late change in the design requirements doubled the aircraft complement, necessitating a second hanger level. The result was the design seen here.

Excuse me sir! Do you have a moment to discuss your lord and savior, the Type 93 torpedo?

But we do not tell our children stories of monsters so that they will know monsters exist. You knew monsters existed before you could speak, before you could walk. You were told stories of monsters because those stories had heroes. You were told stories of monsters so that you would know monsters can be defeated.

I appreciate the offer Bruno, do as you wish. As long as it doesn't disrupt my posting schedule I don't really mind either way.Posted Image

For sure, it just seems to me the Trains/Tanks/Planes/Ships built back them are so much more impressive looking compared to the modern look.

My favorite would have to be Ashigara and Admiral Graf Spee at Kiel.
I shall make a new sig! Eventually.

Thanks. Yeah I agree that the last picture with the seaplane running alongside Hyuga is dramatic.
