Thank you to all it is true this is my first net based game as I had always preferred me and strategy it is a rude awakening but to have somewhat of a life I suppose a necessary evil. I will take it all to hart and I have nothing against the offering of friendly advice on how to improve it is welcome in fact not so keen on those who are dead saying how wrong the surviving are if they had been truly so great why do they need the rest of us anyways they should win it all on there own.

Seems like maybe the bar of soap may be a good idea for a few.

Now to work on that improvement by more practice surely let he who is perfect stop first.

Yet another thread that reinforces my preference for coop.

Bots are great opponents. They don't whine and cry when they are deleted and don't gloat when they delete you.

With the other side silent, there is much less anger in the air and a much friendlier attitude among the players.

So come on over to the coop side of the fence, you might find it a lot more enjoyable

BTW - I'll challenge you for "oldest geek" - I started learning my tech with crystals and vacuum tubes

Ken, I hear you.  I am not as old as you,:teethhappy: but close!

I have played a few internet PC games, Playstation and XBox online.  What you are describing is just a simple fact of internet gaming.  There will always be a portion of the gaming population that gets off on insulting other players either to satisfy their own poor performance angst, or in an attempt to get a rise out of people.

Don't worry about your stats.  Ignore the trolls.  That's the best advice I can give.

See you on the digital seas!  :honoring:

Use it as an advantage for yourself , when a complete [edited]goes off in chat about your almighty stats. I turned mine off long ago (they aren't spectacular now , 60% win , 1:1 ratio on kills etc) , but apparently some 3rd party site pulls old stats or something like that. So once a blue moon I get to hear one of the try-hard's who thinks screaming at people with "bad stats" is "helping". I've gotten to where I enjoy it mightily honestly. I've got wife and kids , career and so on , and play games to have fun , not go rail on someone else for their virtual stats.

Next time someone does that to you , remember that someone is taking the time , in a game , to look up strangers stats and go into a tirade and bravado of how their superiority earns them the right to act like an [edited].

Just imagine how pathetic that person's real life must be , how lonely they must be , to bother with such. There's no way anyone who does that can be well liked in life , so just pity them , and laugh a little ,remembering that that sad little person is well , well , beneath you in real life stats.

Don't let the rude [edited]get to you ever.

BTW , check your email for your account , just sent you the Duca as a gift. There are random nice people around I promise :)

I am another older player. I see what you say everyday in the chat . I even came here to make a suggestion about it. I got Muted by the Forumites, told to grow thicker skin yadayadayada.

Muting toxic players is one effective way to solve your problem. Also the post-it note over the chat works. The Growing of thicker skin?well physically impossible. you have DNA that provides you with a normal thickness. Trying to teach respect to a bunch of diverse humans is also Physically impossible. If their mothers and fathers couldn't do it , a lesson is futility.

Be advised the Forums are the heart of toxicity. The forums are a good place for questions  about the ships and tactics. but also be forewarned you will get a very diverse reaction to even the simplest question.  Being a Baby Boomer I have resigned to toxic chat never ending, Just ignorance on display.

I hope you get better as a player, as I am sure you will.

If you hide your stats then everyone automatically assumes your bad in general.

I assume 99.9% of all players are assuming everyone else in the game is out to shoot them, so I understand it, and hate when that top BB hides at A1 after leaving spawn.

There is nothing wrong with stats. They are a great tool for self improvement. The only time I ever use them against players is if I'm solo and I need to provide AA escort or vision to an friendly BB. I'm going to go with the average player with a few hundred games over the guy with 5,000 games and is decidedly below average. One is demonstrating the desire and ability to learn, the other is not.

Stats are a tool, it's also the 1st weapon used by trolls.  I judge the players in my game on how they play in my game.

Perfectly said!!  Not only do they pull stats up in a game, they do it here on the forum.  They'll even team kill you if they don't like your play.  Those are the people you have to completely disregard as being more of the problem and not the solution here.  Not worth the aggravation. Not worth asking for help from them, not even worth playing with.   As a 50+ myself, we grew up in a different generation that prided ourselves on self respect and dignity.  Something that doesn't exist on a computer screen where you can say things that you would NEVER say to someone directly to their face.  Now to be fair, not everyone online is nasty and rude, but for those that are....they are sick and in need of serious help.   Hide your stats Ken...the only people that need to see them are those that are helping you get better and YOURSELF.  As someone above said....anyone else looking at them is just a troll or looking for an excuse to cause trouble.  Also, there are quite a few 20/30 somethings here that will help and answer questions no matter your age or experience level.   Most of those great players stream on twitch (UKDeepWater, Ichasegaming, femennenly, General dort, clydethemonkey and there are others....go to twitch.com and check out the WoWs streams. You can pick up a ton of good tips watching these players.  You can also go to youtube and watch a ton of videos over there on Wows play.  Some are outdated, most aren't. There are new ones coming out all the time.   I haven't met too many of the older crowd here, but I am sure there are some great players among them that will help.  I think there are even some "old guy" clans here that you can consider joining if you ask in the clans section of the forum.  Good luck and enjoy the game for what it is...A GAME.  Get good because you want to, not because some idiot is shaming you.  Also, as you already probably know, getting good at any game or in real life takes time and practice.  Nobody gets good at anything over night contrary to what some of these players here expect.

Hi, I need to vent about the sad state of in game chat. I recently had a game in one of my IJN t8 Cruisers. I did 160 hits, 66k+ damage and got credit for two sinking’s although that is a team stat in my opinion. I finished second in a losing effort, one of only two ships from my team to survive.

When I peek at chat and someone is spewing report my ship name. I ask what I did wrong and he said my winning percentage was a cancer. Now first I know I am not one of the elite players nor claim to be. I do hope maybe one day to be but not yet. I present the stats not as a validation that I am anything other than trying to do my best. Second, the victory percentage is a worthless stat it means nothing about any player’s abilities it merely means that the teams I have played with have one “X” percent of the battles. I am but 1/12 of that equation.

Now some background and history for the kids out there I am yes born in that year. My first video game is the original one pong. I am an original geek and been into computers since before many of you were even an egg in your mothers ovaries. My system is custom and robust to say the least far beyond normal gamers’ systems. Therefore, geek is an understatement.

In my day, we were taught to respect our elders something lost on this generation. Being called a “cancer” when I am merely trying to have a good time doing something and have obviously spent the time to grind through up to tier 8 CA’s is worthy of degree of basic human respect. I also watch many videos from top players trying to learn and improve my game each day.

If you feel the need to have to put down other players when (by the way they were sunk already), well heck next time tell me up front you are the greatest thing to happen to WOWS since the microchip. I will not even bother to play because heck you should be able to win it all on your own. If not, frankly shut up no one wants to hear your filth.

First, because I don’t rush in and rather study my options is not a flaw it is called wisdom something that comes from living life and learning from its mistakes? Like most kids whom I assume this person was they are in too much of a hurry to do what most people, my age would prefer to do all night. Life is best savored and enjoyed and well just goes better when properly thought out.

Frankly, WG take chat out it is the cancer of the game! It is full of vial mouthed people of about as many intelligent words as their IQ. If it wasn’t for the more mature players like me that have a few bucks to spend on the game it wouldn’t even make enough to afford development. Now if it is possible for people to treat each other with a degree or respect and decorum then maybe it should stay but I am not holding my breath anytime soon for that to happen. Dudes it is a game after all not world peace in the balance. So just grow the blank up and you might learn something about life before it is over.

Hi Ken! Good to see another original GRANDFATHER of GAMERS, like myself. I was born in '64 and I too started out on Pong when it came out in 1970..............something. Then Atari and on and on. It cracks me up to see the kids stupified at seeing 50+ year old dudes such as us playing these games! Never forget- we were the first, there were none before us. Battle on Brother!

OP is right.  I think there is definately a generational difference in how people treat each other, both in games and irl.  That being said, just because "it's the internet"  doesn't mean people have to be god awful to one another.  After scanning the thread I am both surprised and encouraged to see as many people supporting the op as there are telling him to "toughen up" or "get over it".  Games will always be toxic and this one's no exception, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss change and maybe mature a little.

I keep my stats hidden. I play the game for my own enjoyment, I don't care about your stats why should you care about mine. I can experiment with different ships that I might not be good with and don't worry if my win rate or damage ratings go down. If people assume I suck at the game because my stats are hidden I'll just sink em!!

If you think the chat in this game is bad?

Oh, boy..

WoWS's chat is ultra-civil compared to many other online games.

"Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm, but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves." - T.S. Eliot, The Cocktail Party

World of Tanks Blitz general chat got so toxic they eventually had to shut it down and heard somebody say they heard that it had gotten a rating of top 10 most toxic chat rooms on the internet. Few times I wondered to myself if FBI didn't have a team dedicated to just reading that chat and running traces bad to user locations...

I only visited that chat once in a while and rarely was anything useful going on, most of the time it was either bad or potentially criminal in nature. Especially at night when Mods were not online usually.

And now Wargaming made it so you can't talk to enemy team at all while you battle and you can't chat with either team once once you die.

Think that one got so bad is because kids could pull it up on their phones or tablets anytime they wanted to vs having to access a desktop or laptop.

Pretty sure kids were the main ines with the profanity because it always flooded battles once kids were out of school each day and I notice same thing in Wiws so I actually try to schedule my game time either when kids will be at school or asleep.

I will do dude ty for restoring my faith in humanity, I am disabled and I don't feel sorry because I don't have what some of my condo neighbors have. I drive a 2004 mini van (why it fits my 4 wonderful sons , 1 studying bio chem the other off to fort Benning to become a tanker and 2 wonderful 7th grade twins) it also fits my wife of almost 28 years who is still as good looking as a 20 year old despite fighting MS. We have little in many worldly ways but yet DT can't even come close to my wealth as a man. You are so right and all the good from this post is well taken and heard this post is a good reason to persevere i do play because I enjoy having something in my life to ease the pain of illness. This is what makes life great for me.

holy mother of all that is holy, you are right on that. League of Legends, WoTBlitz, World of Tanks, World of Warcraft pvp battleground chat/Trade chat, and Call of Duty (child online daycare). there many other but those chats make all of us in Warships look like innocent children compared to those toxic wastedumps. Now Ken, Hope you improve as a player, just improve your performance, and you will take shape, but nevermind these bums who spew profanities in game chat, just mute them, report them and move on, usually no one bothers me but then again one look at my profile a toxic player runs away in horror. *shrugs*  before I go I'll recommend youtube channels to improve your game and for humor, look up iChase, Yuro, Flamu, and Notser to give more tips to improve and to laugh at the game too (Yuro). Hope to see you out there, Ken *salutes*

Disclaimer to toxic players: Not everyone is a pro-MLG gamer, so stop pretending you are and go nerd rage somewhere else. Better yet, return to your foul realm of World of Tanks, and/or Call of Duty. -Signed EVERYONE

If that toxic player hadn't seen your stats you wouldn't have had harassment on it.  Go to the website and hide your stats from the trolls.

Actually, the stat sites will pull the last public view of your stats once you hide them. I find it hilarious when someone tells me I'm horrible based on stats well over a year old. Quite a subtle way to troll the stat hoes

1.  Hit the Enter Button to start chatting

2.  Hold the CTRL button and mouse over to the chat box

3.  Click the X under the chat entry line

4.  Release CTRL

5.  Enjoy a chat free game

No longer will you see chat,   You will have to do this for every battle you enter, but it only takes 3 seconds.
