High there all wows players. I love ships, there history and technical facts and are especially fond of naval ships. Therefore I thought that wows would be a great idea for me. However I seem to have no luck with it- almost like i am jinxed. Its now reached the stage where I often cannot even repair my ship and since I am not fortunate enough to invest real money into the game at regular intervals I have to constantly downgrade my ships - in fact almost the only ships I have left are ARPS. I suppose I will or might be called various things [noob - welp etc] but facts are facts. Are there any other standard players out there who has found a way to progress further with this game in an effective way without spending money on it. If so please share your secret of success since I am desperate to find a solution.

Looking at your stats, with almost 3500 battles, it seems you're missing something vital about the gameplay.

I highly suggest going to youtube and watching all the "Help an Ensign" videos. They have a lot of very important information about playing the different types of ships...

- Keep a few tier low tier ships around that you enjoy playing, it's near impossible to lose money on those, so by playing those you'll have a steady income

- Random pays more in credits and experience than COOP does

- Stay alive and do more damage, you'll earn more credits and do better

- Don't be the first one spotted, don't be the easiest target, there's no shame in retreating if you're overextended

(Above stats not guaranteed accurate. I'm a supertester and test ships don't always register correctly)

What these guys said^^^

Also, have you looked in to your computer set up?  Are you getting lag? How many FPS do you run?  Running too high of a graphic setting will effect your game.

He has 3600 solo battles in random, and only 181 coop battles.

I think he needs to work on positioning, aiming and angling, as he is a BB main...

I suffer from low stat syndrome as well. Something that is helping me is working in a division. I hang with a player who enjoys the same ship I do and is more experienced with it. His advice as we play has really helped.

Referring to luckyotter saying graphics settings affects lag on the game - is this true even when my machine can easily handle something like assassins creed syndicate on full graphic settings?

Well its finally happened - I now only have ARP ships left. Thanks WOWS for these, its the only reason I can still play the game.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out why I'm almost always the one to get killed first.

I must be wows's father christmas, giving xp, credits and other nice achievements to the players.

Face it guys without players like me it would take you longer to progress in the game.

So whereto now?

Got to try and build up some in game credits.

Does anyone know where I can get a list of service costs per ship.

Ill have to play the ARP ships with the lowest one for a while.

I presume its the Tier 5 Kongo ARPS.

Maybe I should consider concentrating on ramming for a while.

I think we're missing the point.   We play in groups/teams, not individually, and the groups that are assigned recently to me seem to be losing all of the time.  Is WOWS stacking the deck somehow.  Good ratios should be close to 50% wins/loses, which I have maintained in the last year.  But recently all of the groups/teams assigned by WOWS for me have been losing consistently with no wins.

there's basically nothing you are doing wrong the higher you go the dumber this games economy is, AND ITS NOT YOUR Fault that you lose the game is a team effort so if you lose, 95% of the time its your teams fault. Lemmings who go in 1 direction or VBB.s who sit back and hide behind islands,  people like that.

Ok if credits are the problem then I recommend this:

Stay in the T5-T7 range like Lert said. You should be turning a profit most of the time even when loosing. When getting containers go for credits and camo. Think about investing in flags at the premium store that emphasizes credits. Find a ship that suits your play style. And try not to die until at least 10 minute mark and you've killed 1 preferably 2 ships.  Once you got a 5 mile credit stash think about grinding away to other ships. I would recommend not playing Takao yet. Also you might want too look at the map strategy series. Also this: If it's a bad game, look at what happened and what would you do if happens again. Get into the habit of analyzing your game play. go to you tube for reviews of your ship. If your playing with just stock, your hurting yourself. You need to upgrade. Also premium consumables you want to think about later on.CO skills are another topic.

As with most modern games you have to remember to do more than one thing at a time.

Minimap: I remember a long time back someone wrote that they check the minimap every few seconds so they have an idea of:

  • Where they are in relationship to the reds
  • Where the closest red threat is located
  • Where the team is positioned
  • And probably most importantly - are they where they want to be?

It really, really is worth taking a week's worth of mission time to practice using the minimap. It really is that important (imho).

I still find myself, sometimes, forgetting to look. It really is an awesome asset.

The ARP ships are great for turning credits to build your bank. I would suggest you stay with the lower tiered Kongo for quite a number of matches. In a BB you can get away with stupid longer than you can a cruiser or destroyer. Trust me - I've been there.

Overall key points in any ship:

  • Use the minimap
  • Do not show the broadside of your ship to any red ship that is within range of penetrating it.
  • Look for reds within range of your ship that are showing you their broadside.
  • Generally... point your bow (the front) of your ship at the enemy then turn a few degrees left or right so you are angled. Use your front guns until they start to turn away from you then cut hard, dump a salvo on them and get yourself back to bow on if possible/needed.
  • Look at the minimap.

Some of us take longer than others to get better at this game. Trust me, I personally know this.

What you can do is turn on your replays, then watch your own matches using replay. You can then figure out what you're doing wrong - and what you're doing right.

Finally - when you die, don't leave the match. If there's a ship similar to yours, go ride along with them, watch what they do as compared to what you might do. Don't tell them what to do (i know i know) but just ride along. When/if they die, find another. This really does help one to learn what can and what won't work.

All the best.

All of the above are excellent advise and has helped me in one or more ways.

However can anyone give me an indication what is an acceptable ping - i'm constantly having a ping ranging from 230 ms to 700 ms or worse causing havoc with my game.

ummm I would say max acceptable is 150 and thats a stretch at that if its gonna be consistent there.... you should expect under 100. Where in the world are you? maybe another server would give better ping or your internet is just too weak for gaming..

My son has no problem using the same internet connection to play "over watch", therefore i don't think its my internet connection.

Do I have to use the WOWS NA server? Are there others available and if so how do I connect to them?

I don't pay for premium time, yet I have a port full of ships, multiple Tier 9's and a Tier 10.  I'm not flush with credits, as buying and upgrading a Tier 9 is very expensive.  However, I typically earn well over 100,000 silver per battle.  Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on tier played and my effectiveness in the game.

So, premium time certainly is not necessary.  It does make the economy more comfortable, and significantly shortens the grind on ships and accelerates captain experience.

I do have several premium ships I have either bought or gotten free, and I play them frequently.  That also helps to accelerate captain experience and equals a silver profit.

I guess I don't understand how you are having trouble keeping your head above water in the silver category when you have 3,500+ games of experience...

No way you can play with that ping. The lag must be terrible
